CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That's true, he recanted under duress. However, you don't see people going around saying "Galileo recanted, therefor the earth is the center of the universe."

Nice poem. This declares the who of creation, but doesn't say a thing about the how. For Christians, evolution is the how of creation.

It's a good point. The accuracy of scientific theories is determined by the data, not by the person. I submit that creationists trot out the Lady Hope story and attacks on Darwin's character because religion is determined by the person. All you have is the person's word. For instance, the major evidence Christians have for the Resurrection is the word of the authors of the Gospels and St. Paul's story of seeing the risen Jesus. If these people were to recant, then Christianity is down the tubes.
Creationists project this situation onto science. Scientific theories, to them, are believed because we trust the scientist who promotes them. In their minds, if the scientist were to recant, then the theory disappears.
