Only He wasn't put in the ground and covered with earth, was He?So why does Jesus say the kernel has to "die"? Probably because the actual planting involves putting it in the ground and covering it with earth - not unlike a human burial.
Once again we have a Biblical passage that requires a bit of context:
The whole of John 12:20-36 is Jesus predicting his death - he is basically saying in order for the world to be saved, he must die. He is using the comparison of wheat because in order to grow news crops, the kernel has to be seperated from the head and planted. It will then sprout a whole new plant.
So why does Jesus say the kernel has to "die"? Probably because the actual planting involves putting it in the ground and covering it with earth - not unlike a human burial. It's probably a poetic reference to his own inevitable death too. But he is NOT saying that plants are not alive.
AV1611VET: Please stop quoting passages out of context. It's misleading.
I don't want to speak for him, but I thought it was pretty obvious he was addressing the idea of food metabolism and the role it plays in human life. Not whether or not they ate living plants/animals.This is your real question.
What if the food they eat was not alive?
Before the fall, what was the purpose of their eating ?no, because the fall led to death. That is to say that, because of the fall we ALL will die unless Christ comes back first that is the ONLY way we avoid death; otherwise no matter how well I care for myself I WILL die one day. Now, may certain life choices lead to an earlier death than other certainly no question about it. However, even if I never once get an oz over weight never once eat ANY junk food never use drugs, never have a sip of alcohol or a single puff off a cigarette or anything I will still die. Now if I do that stuff to excess will I likely die YOUNGER yes, but if I never do ANY of the above I will still die one day.
When a seed sprouts, it is not a seed any more.
Whatever you want to call that change, it is fine. Die, the end, is one way to say it.
Does a caterpillar die when it becomes a butterfly?

What was the purpose of them eating anything ?
Before the fall, what was the purpose of their eating ?
The remainder of the seed is a hard, lifeless shell, or is nutrients. It would be like saying that the dead skin that comes off of you sacrificed itself so that your complexion would remain nice. The reality is that the parts of a seed that do not become a plant weren't alive long before the plant sprouts.
Same idea could be applied to the chicken egg.
I'll ask at least one more time, with the idea you will actually answer the question instead of playing the unbelievably tiring internet-forum-misdirection game:Do we eat in the Heaven?
I believe we will.
Eat what? and what for? Would our digestive system still be the same as it is now? I don't think so.
Treat the ecology in the Garden as that of now is very improper.
I believe that if Adam stubbed his toe on a rock it would've hurt. And if he would've fallen out of a tree he could've broken his leg, or his back. And if he would've swum out into one of those rivers farther than he could swim back he would've drowned.Actually, it's not so much what they are eating that I was hinting at, but that's still an interesting point. What I am saying is, if there was to death before the fall, then there would be no reason for people to eat anything at all. If there is no death then nutrition is no longer a requirement to live.
Adam and Eve did not eat, because Adam and Eve did not exist.
I can see that botany is yet another of the sciences that creationists know nothing about.....
