  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

We actually started with a service when ds#2 was born ... used it for 2 months and then bought/washed our own. So, we have the pail they gave us ... basically like a trash can with a lid. It's not airtight but I haven't noticed any smell coming from it unless I leave the lid up. I have two washable liners that I rotate with the wash - just throw the liner in there too.

That is so awesome that you got your dipes and wrap from your shower!!! Did you do an on-line cloth registry? You must have some great cloth support. :)

Do you sew? If so, I can send you some info about making your own - for about $16, you can get a yard of PUL and a yard of micro and make 5-6 pockets! :)
My mom sews and we've looked at the info for sewing our own but it seems pretty troublesome especially for someone with a brand new baby (I'm due in 10 days). I keep hoping to find a great deal on ebay when someone's kid is done and they want to sell them (or just hand them off. I know someone who got 3 dozen fuzzi bunz for 3).

The comment about poop ending up in landfills? Yeah that comment is totally pointless to bring up considering the state of some of our sewer systems, lol.

I would rather the poop be in the landfill then where it goes back in MY home town.. right into the harbour and that harbour connects out to sea :p Nova Scotia Lobster anyone? ;) How about some nice salmon :D

Boating, anyone for boating in the harbour? Don't fall overboard ;) :D

My home town is also home to North America's largest toxic waste site, a by-product of the old coke ovens in the steel plant. They've been rallying for decades to get it cleaned up.. its right across from the local shopping mall. My home town has some of the highest rates of cancer in the country, but is the government concerned? No they pass it off as some sort of coincidence.. right, right, has nothing to do with the toxic sludge lake outside of the shopping centre.

Yep, the thought of poop in the landfill doesn't bug me in the slightest >< I'm not saying its necessarily right to add to the problem but the fact is that poop's goin somewhere and its not always goin to a nice place. Not every city has a fancy sewage treatment facility, in fact I would say most don't.

Well sorry your home town does such a poor job but mine doesn't happen to. And landfill run off (which is why they don't want poop in the landfills) ends up in the lakes and streams anyway.

We started out using pampers because that is what they used in the hospital. I loved the diaper but hated the price. I switched to Luvs with my oldest and I swear by them. Luvs never once leaked. They fit ten times better than Huggies. I only wish they were more like the pampers swaddlers. For newborns there isn't a better diaper, I would even say it could hold its own against cloth.

I have never heard of disposing of baby poo in the toliet before throwing away the diaper. My mother-in-law does this and I thought she was looney. Maybe she isn't as looney as I thought. I think I will stick to tossing the poo in the trash. Both of mine are almost toliet trained anyways.

People are so worried about baby poo and human waste being in the landfill but I am pretty sure there are alot worse things in there.
