Do you use cloth or disposable diapers for your babies? If you've used both, which do you prefer?

Diapers are so expensive here. :help: I'm thinking I'll either have to use cloth diapers or invest in a Sam's Club membership.

Also, if you bought or made cloth diapers, I'd love to hear of some stores that sell them or websites that have cloth diaper patterns.

I use disposables on my 10-month-old. I tried cloth when she was about four months old but at that time she was growing so quickly that I barely had a chance to use them before they didn't fit anymore. LOL I never got around to buying a bigger size and decided to just stick with disposables for now. I might give cloth a better shot with my next baby.

It is a lot more work, no matter what anybody tells you, it is a lot more work. And I hate, hate, hate doing laundry, so maybe that's why I wasn't too motivated to buy more diapers and try again. But it can certainly be worth it.

We started using cloth around 9 months and haven't looked back. The only time we use disposable now is if we're traveling or if she gets a bad rash and needs some diaper cream (rare now that we're using cloth).

We use Fuzzi Bunz and bought ours from www.nurturedfamily.com.

Although I can't imagine that I'd personally ever sew our own diapers, I've come across a few links for patterns, tips, and fabric:

www.diapersewing.com
www.wazoodle.com

www.diaperpin.com is also a great resource for reviews, tips, and sales.

I've always used disposables with Breanna, but I've heard some great things about cloth diapers. I was TRULY blessed with Breanna. She cannot wear the "expensive" brands of diapers. Huggies, Pampers, even Luvs cause her to break out. The only brand that I've found that works is Walmart's brand. It's 10 something for one of the oversized packs. It's great!!

I worked for a lady who had a 2 year old in cloth diapers when her twins were born. So we had 3 kids in diapers, for the first 8 months.

She used the ones that were shaped like a disposable diaper and we used the liners. Really not that much different, put the diaper and liner in the bucket, if there is solid waste, you hold the liner in the toilet and flush before putting them in the bucket. We did a load of diapers daily sometimes two but that's with the demand of 3 kids using them. The older boy soaked through his even with double liners and plastic overpants so his mother decided to potty train.

No more difficult than disposables.

I liked how with the liners you could put them different, like for boys it's more useful near the front, while it's better towards the back for girls. Also, they got the girls the cutest plastic overpants with flowers. :)

According to them, even with washing etc, they saved over 2 grand by the time the twins were fully potty trained, cloth diapering the 3 kids.

If we had our own washer and drier we'd be using cloth diapers. Maybe for kid number two, we will.

We use cloth and have from day one. Wellday 9 i guess when he came home from the hospital. The threat of bodily injury couldn't make me use disposable. I HATE the smell of them before they are even pooped or peed in and I hate being around babies that have gone in disposables for more than a few minutes. We have saved tons of money. We got a lot for shower gifts and then we've spent about $150 on some ourselves. We gotmost of our from a lady name Theresa who sells on ebay. Her screen neame is granitesmith and she will set up a little mini registry. We have someallin ones. WE have Little Lambs, also formebay but we don'tlike themmuch and then we have some Jelly Beans diapers that we love. Unfortunately the lady went out of business. The prefold ahve worked best for us (as far as cost effectiveness) becuase we've been able to ue them so many ways. We've only had about 3 months when we didn't use them at all. We use them now inside pocket diapers(we have Wonderoos that are like Fuzzibunz, but I think a little better) and inside the LittleLambs (the only thing we don't like about themnow is the fit). We put two in at night. We are still using the infant size.

Which diapers do you ladies like best? My MIL decided she would be "smart" and start stocking up on diapers which I'm not to happy about. I'm afraid she's going to buy a brand that may not work well for my baby. I've known so many people who've had to try a few before they found what worked for them. Has this been true for anyone here?

The figure will depend on where you live. I know that H20 has quadrupled in my old city! People aren't even flushing the toilet after each use anymore:eek:.
Good info though.

I've tried Luvs, hated them. I've tried "Target", hated them, I've tried "pampers" and both sons leaked all the time. Huggies was the way to go for us! AND Costco sells the big boxes...
My friend only used Target! My SIL only used Pampers.

I think with disposables it's really just trial and error. We plan on starting at the cheapest and working our way up until we find ones that don't leak, lead to rash etc. I know one mother who swears by luvs while another says they leak and only uses Parent's choice. I know one mom who swears by pampers for girls but not for boys.

It was Huggies all the way for us, too, with both girls. We preferred Huggies Supreme (they fit the best), we'd settle for regular Huggies if they were out of Supreme (still good with controlling leaks, but not the best fit)...if there were no Huggies to be found, we went with Pampers, but they definitely weren't our favorites.

We NEVER used the plastic-y diapers...lol, I'd rather them run around naked. ;)

We never had a problem with diaper rash with either child. And the rashes they did have were food related or due to a virus or something...the diapers were great.

True. My boys would get a diaper rash only if they ate something really acidic (tomatoe based etc) or like you mentioned - viral (stomach flue)...etc.

We always bought huggies first and then pampers if they were out of huggies.

I have heard the least complaints with Huggies...I guess they are good:clap:

More than that, it would be smart if she didn't stockpile much in sizes since she doesn't know how fast he/she will grow.

We did straight disposable for the first year with David, then we decided to try cloth and love them. He still wears a disposable overnight, and I wash the diapers. We only have enough for one day that's why.

We like the cloth diapers so much we plan to go only cloth with this next baby. They're easy, we save sooo much money (approx 1200 dollars per year based on our individual situation), and they're easy to clean and dry too. They are also much much cuter., and they fit better. I have the cutest pictures of David running around in his FB's ;)

We are using Fuzzi Bunz, but I might try some of the other kinds with the new baby. Fuzzi Bunz are pocket diapers, we've never had ANY leaking problems either.

We bought ours here because they have a free inserts (pocket fillers): http://www.nurturedfamily.com/fuzzi-bunz.aspx

Emily has worn almost every brand of diaper that i can think of, except for white cloud, i think that's what it's called. anyways, everyone at my baby shower got me 1 pack of diapers, and they were all different kinds! Little Tykes, Parent's Choice, Pampers, Huggies (regular and supreme), and Luvs. Emily wears Huggies, Luvs and Parent's Choice no problem, the others gave her a terrible rash that made her scream when i would wipe her. I prefer Huggies Supreme, the fit so so well, but I can't always find them so she wears the regular ones most of the time. My MIL keeps Parent's Choice mostly because they're cheaper so she wears those often too. you just have to try different things and see what works best for them. I wouldn't ever use cloth (unless she had bad rashes with all disposable brands) because i hate laundry!:p

Well, we don't pay for water, and once we live on base we won't pay for electricity, either, so I imagine cloth would save us quite a bit of money. I've also heard that with cloth diapers it's easier to potty train at a younger age because the child is more aware that they've wet themselves. My parents used cloth on us and we all potty trained very early, so I think that's a huge plus :)
