Emily has a terrible diaper rash. I recently put her in Huggies Supreme (up from the regular Huggies) but she's worn them before and never had a problem, but just in case she's developed some kind of allergy to them, i put her back in the regular ones and the rash still isnt going away. It's really red and bumpy, i can't hardly wipe her without her screaming til she loses her breath. ive been putting Balmex on her religiously for the past week (it's always worked on her other rashes), but this one isnt showing any signs of going away, it kinda looks like it's getting worse! should i take her to the doctor tomorrow?:help:

Are you letting her back end get air? Taking her to the doc sounds like a good idea if you feel the need to. I'd try letting her lay nakid on a towel to let her air for a bit before putting cream and diaper on her.

Huggies Supreme have a VERY strong smell to me so that could be the cause, a reaction to them.

i have always worked with toddlers, and when one of them had a diaper rash, i would apply (Dr.Smiths) diaper cream, it works real good! If the rash is real bad, i would say just to let her go "nakie", for a little while.

Also, it might not be a diaper rash...it could be a yeast infection. Both my daughters had just one each, but both times, they were in horrible pain. Nothing like a normal diaper rash (which they never got more than a bump or two as long as we were using Huggies). Their tushies were bright red, and they got bumps all over...some of the bumps looked white. Their doctors prescribed Lotrimin AFcream, which I always thought was for athlete's foot, but actually it's for any kind of fungal infection (which is what a yeast infection is).

Anyway, if it's not looking any better, I'd take her to the doctor and let him check her out. At the least, even if it is just a severe diaper rash, made he can give you a stronger cream to fix it.

i have a little sister, and when she was younger, she used to get really bad yeast infections from diapers too. so i'd suggest taking her to the doctors.

just another suggestion, a friend of our family, her son, was allergic to the baby powder she was using, not sure if you switched that or anything.

well good luck, emily will be in my prayers to feel better, and you as well to have the knowledge to know what to do!!

I don't know...like I said, Huggies were AWESOME for us...we never had more than a bump or two as far as diaper rash goes...

But, in general, I don't think that diaper rashes should cause your baby to be in extreme pain...most kids that I've known that did have rashes (my friends kids, nursery kids, babysitting kids, etc) weren't even bothered by them.

That's why I mentioned a possible yeast infection...that's the only time that MY girls were ever in real pain from a rash in their diaper area.

If you have an independent pharmacy in your town, I would go there and see if the pharmacist makes his own diaper rash stuff to sell. All of ours here do, and the one i get is really thick, and cleared Jewell up within a days time anytime she had it. To help with the stinging when you wipe her, either use a wet washcloth, or wet papertowel. I found even the sensitive skin wet wipes would burn Jewell if she had a diaper rash. I wouldn't take her to the doctor unless the rash starts bleeding. When it starts to heal and isn't as red, vaseline works well to coat in between diaper changes. Even if she doesn't have a rash, it will prevent one from coming.

Letting her go naked for a bit each day really helps prevent nappy rash. Over here we can get vaseline or petroleum jelly, a clear non toxic barrier cream, which is excellent applied at night or if you think it might be a while between nappy changes as the urine can't penetrate this. Prevention is worth an ounce of cure & it can be really hard to get rid off.

My son had a diaper rash similiar to your baby's. The doctor told me that when the spots are raised, it's usually an allergic reaction to the diapers. But of course, a yeast infection looks kind of the same. My son only wears Huggies Supreme, anything else breaks him out like that. I agree with the other posters who said to let her run around naked when you can and when you have a diaper on her, change her like crazy.

Boudreaux's Butt Paste!! This stuff is SO awesome! I smear it all over Breanna's bum as soon as she shows even the slightest sign of having a rash, and it's cleared up in no time. Also, a lot of diaper rash ointments can burn on the rash, but Boudreaux's doesn't! Breanna even asks for it now when her bum is starting to bother her...lol.

As for the diapers, Brea could wear anything for the first few months. But at some magic age, I can't remember which month, her body decided that it would be a little more particular! She can't wear any of the "expensive" brands of diapers. No huggies, no pampers. She can't even wear Luvs, they break her out. She can only wear Parents' choice, which I believe is specific to Walmart. And it's WAY cheaper than the other brands, so talk about a blessing! (I get 80 sz 5's for just over $10!)

Have you recently added a new food? (Or, if nursing, have you eaten something different?)

What has worked for us is Badger Balm's "Healing Balm" You can get it at Advance Auto Parts or Cracker Barrel stores. This is beeswax, olive oil, castor oil, extract of sweet birch.
