Dial Up or broadband

Do you mostly surf the net on dial up or broadband or both?

I had been using dial up.
Got broadband today. "I'm so excited"
Still need to get the wireless router up so I can use my laptop broadband.

I've had broadband for alittle over a year now. I love it,it's so much faster. I had dial-up for a couple of years. I remember how it used to tie up the phone line and it was so slow downloading. Sometimes I would just give up before it finished downloading.

Dial-up--it's the only thing available out here in the country unless I want to spend a whole lot of money and go satellite. I'm sticking with the dial-up.

That is the same problem my parents have.
My mom was all set to get it but found out she could not.

Broadband is great because of its speed. I have roadrunner, and the service is horrible.

I, being a geek, wanted broadband 8 years ago. Couldn't justify the cost to my then-accountant now wife. Things started falling into place slowly after we were married, however.

We have family living all over the country, so our phone bill was very high. We discussed cell phones, but were never happy with the contracts and stipulations. Finally AT&T offered a plan where you pay about $70 and get all the long-distance included. We signed up and were happy. We also were using NetZero for ten hours per month of online time. Yes, I wanted more, but again I couldn't justify the expense.

Then one day, a brochure arrived in the mail detailing AT&T's "CallVantage" VOIP service. The introductory rate was $20/mo. After the first three months it went up to $35/mo. Well, RoadRunner was running an introductory rate of $22/mo. After the first six months it went up to $45/mo. or something like that. Well, I did the math -- and came up ten dollars short. Then someone told me about RoadRunner Lite (384kbps) for only $25/mo. Hey, $35+$25=$60! We're paying less than what our previous long-distance bill was, and getting high-speed internet to boot!

I finally justified it. Now, we're enjoying the best of both worlds. The only time I ever notice the decreased bandwidth is when I download large files. Other than that, it's no problem!

PS - I've had very few service problems with RoadRunner. Billiing, now that's a different story for a different day!

Broadband is SO much faster the dial-up, you can get a lot more surfing done!!

For downloads you can't beat broadband. I absolutely love it. Other times I think my dial up was faster. It's definately got its pro and cons.

We live so far out in the sticks the only way we'll ever get broadband is when satellite gets down to about $50/month. We're so far out there, and our phone lines are so ancient, even with a 56k modem I can only get about 26k. I don't download much.

I hear ya. Mine's running at 26.4 right now!
