• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hey guys, I was just diagnosed with bi polar II this week. I'm not going to lie, I'm actually kind of scared. I don't know if I should take the meds or not because I don't know if it's right. I don't have any conviction about it, but I still am curious =/. I also just realized I will have this for the rest of my life, if God doesn't heal me. I'm not even sure if I should ask him to heal me, or just accept that I am that way? =/

of course ask for healing! :)
It is Gods will for you Heaven to reign on earth, in you.. and your health is part of that.

I say take the meds, because you will probably be more stable and less likey to have a breakdown. It can be very hard for those around you too.. and your stability will help family cope too.

it's not wrong to try ween yourself off over a long period.. but you just need to weigh up if it is worth risking having a breakdown.

the only time i would go ainst the meds if there side-effects are unbearable to you, or if you cant function normally with them.

2 Corinthians 12:7 "To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me."

Phiippians 4:7 "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

It may help you to try to get some healthy hobbies to take your mind off or bi-polar or to just vent or self expression.

James 1:8 "he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does."

Try to find things to become more stable and keep reading the word of God

Hosea 4:6 "my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. "Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children."

So put the Bible in your heart, even when you think things are going great, that way when your troubles come, you can use it as a double edged sword.

Hebrews 4:12 "For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."

Psalm 4:8 "I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety."

Psalm 3:5 "I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the LORD sustains me."

Psalm 23:2 "He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,"

Psalm 121:4 "indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep."

well this could be for a number of reasons, but I think this is probably because you may feel restless, here is a good verse for explanation regarding this.

Ecclesiastes 5:12 "The sleep of the working man is pleasant, whether he eats little or much; but the full stomach of the rich man does not allow him to sleep."

Here are some simple ideas that could help you,

for laboring perhaps you might be intrested in doing some sort of weightlifting, running or physical exercise. This should help improve your sleep as exercise releases endorphins that help manage depression.

Also try drinking milk if you live somewhere that does not have alot of sunlight, because you may have seasonal depression, taking walks may help you as well.

Of course those are physical needs, for your mental and spiritual needs try this.

James 1:27 "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."

You can apply this elsewhere for example, the Bible tells us to love our neighbors, try joining Big brothers club or some volunteer work, or just try to be a friend.

It will help take your mind off of stuff, anyways good luck in managing this!

John 10:10 "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."

You see? God loves you and he wants you to enjoy your life as well, he did not withhold his only son from you and he will not withhold his love and mercy for you as well.

Hi
I really like the way Deathbyfruit uses the scriptures to get you through a difficult situation. I try to do this as well. I've been mentally ill sense my teens but didn't get a label until much later in life. I take meds everyday and i have come to realize i need to take them and not try to get off them. I use to go on and off my meds but it caused such a big problem with my finances 'cause I couldn't work and it affected my family as well. I would say pray for healing, after all God could do this if its His will. If not then His grace is sufficient for you. Keep the scriptures close to you. follow Deathbyfruits advice and you will do well. God bless

I would also recommend staying on your medications. I'm also a Type II (though I present with psychotic symptoms) and am "ultra-rapid cycling", meaning I can cycle between hypomania and depression as often as every day. Its possible that you are rapid cycling as well and the evening (when you are tired and worn out from the day) is when your depression starts to kick in. Nothing about this illness is "normal", but what you mention does sound typical of ultra-rapid cycling.

As the saying goes, "God helps those who help themsleves". I don't believe mental illness is from God any more than being born with a genetic disorder. Keep praying for God's help, but keep in mind that his help may come in the form of directing you to that one doctor who decides to prescribe that one medication that really helps stabilize your mood. In the end, you have to take responsibility for your own wellbeing and that includes taking medications (even if it means taking them every day for the rest of your life) in pursuit of stabilizing your mood.
