  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There were devotionals written with a weekly theme when
our children where that age. We tried to do something
'hands on' each day, and on Saturday or Sunday take them
to a favorite place to eat, to review over lunch and talk
about how the theme applied to their lives at the time.

When my son was younger, a preteen and early teen we used some Josh McDowell material, my son really liked it. We read Leadership from the Lockers and so forth. There are a lot of great devotions devoted to teen use. He and I used to do devotions at night before he went to bed.
For the family devotion we use Guidepost or Daily Bread at the dinner table before we eat.

The nice thing is that most of the teen devotionals focus on what kids deal with daily, teasing, body image and body changes, parent difficulties etc. I think it is really important for kids to know that they are not alone in dealing with life issues that affect them and that there are Christian guidelines for them to use.

For my son, who is now 16, having a personal devotion time made a greater impact on him than even the family devotion, although both are helpful. He sees me having private time with my coffee and Bible in the mornings and knows his dad does the same on the way to work. Family devotions before or after supper in the evenings seems to help bring us all together.

Good luck in your search, God Bless you for encouraging your child in his own walk with Jesus
