  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Dennis and Barbara Rainey have some that seem to be pretty good. You can look at the first five devotionals of Moments With You on their website to see if it might interest you. The only thing is that it is geared towards married couples, not dating couples, so some of it won't apply. There is also one called Moments Together For Couples. I'm not sure how that differs, but it might work better.

We decided to just go through Romans. We read a chapter and then discuss it a little and pray. It seemed to work great for us. We haven't done it in awhile...we should get back to it because it was always a very special time.

I recommend The Upper Room along with articles from the Christian Century, or any theological work. My girlfriend and I in our nightly devotionals start with an opening prayer (we alternate) then select Scriptural readings then discuss them- What does it mean for the people who wrote that selection? What does it mean for us as 21st century Christians and religious beings? We also look at imagery, metaphor and myth. From there we conclude with a closing prayer. I also recommend doing a practice called Lectio Divina where one prays and contemplates Scripture without distractions. When one focuses on a prayer or a part of scripture you read it several times until a word or phrase sticks out then one reflects on the meaning of that word or phrase. This exercise helps to commune with God and at the same time reflect on sacred text.

I just finished reading "Devotionals for Dating Couples" by Ben Young and Dr. Samuel Adams. It was a nine week day by day devotional. They touch on a different topic every week ( Grace, Prayer, Love, Forgiveness, The Word, Simplicity, Purity, The Spirit, and community). The two writers are very down to earth and speak from experience with great metaphors the whole way through. I was weary of it coming off as preachy but it wasn't at all and it really helped me and my girlfriend talk about a lot of stuff and grow stronger in Christ because of it. I hope this helps
