Mark 8:22-25
22 They came to Bethsaida, and some people brought a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him. 23 He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit on the mans eyes and put his hands on him, Jesus asked, Do you see anything?
24 He looked up and said, I see people; they look like trees walking around.
25 Once more Jesus put his hands on the mans eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. 26 Jesus sent him home, saying, Dont even go into the village.
This is an incredible story, and it has been read in many different ways. The man was blind from birth, and when Christ came into town people rushed towards him to beg for the healing of this man. This first section shows to power of fellowship, we hear stories of church congregations coming together in prayer for people and we hear the incredible healing which takes place. Now the act of begging is a powerful word, they did not just stroll up to Jesus and ask for a blessing. They new he could do and they put every effort into the asking of Christ to heal this man. When we come in prayer we tend to get caught up in the repetitive prayer of I pray for this or that, and we wonder why they are not being answered. When we come to God we need to focus our entire being upon him, Myself I have realized that the way I prayed was becoming to comfortable, and I had to humble myself in prayer. Another incredible aspect of this story is the way Jesus took the blind man by the hand and lead him out of the city. I read people say he was avoiding publicity but the truth is simple we see it in our own lives. When we come to Christ he leads us away from the familiar chaos around us he takes our hands and brings us to that quite place where it us just us and the Lord. Just the compassion shown in this verse of Christ taking his hand and leading him. Its like the Jesus is saying, come take my hand I will take care of you, and I will not steer you wrong. When we are going out and preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ and saving souls we need to focus that it is not WE who save them, but Christ. The people brought him to Jesus and he took care of the rest. This is why I do not believe in the sinners prayer on first conversations with people, I need to bring this person to the knowledge of Christ and his sinful ways and pray that the Lord will take his hand. When Christ first begins to open his eyes, and the man does not fully see, The Lord asks "Do you see anything?" The man says he see's people but they look like tree's. Now we know Jesus Christ could have healed this man on the first try, but why make a point? Because it is a powerful one. To me, I see a man who is beginning to see for the first time, This is what happens when we begin to dig into what it means to be a Christian and Live like a christian. I read this part as Jesus asking the man "Is this enough?" he was testing the man, The Man could have jumped up with joy and thanked the Lord for he could see, he never saw before so this first sight could have been what everyone else was seeing. But he took the time to Describe what it was he saw. The people walking around like trees, in a Christian eyes we begin to see the world for the evil and sinful ways it is when we come to Christ. Then Christ fully opened his eyes and the man saw everything clearly. This is what happens when we truly Focus our lives upon Christ, We begin to see that the people walking around are in need of the message, we begin to notice the details in every aspect of our lives. The final point of this that I would like to bring up is how Christ told the man not to return into the city but to go home. We see often when people become a christian at a youth event or in a big crowd they run out to their friends and exclaim the glory of being saved. They soak them selves up in the joy of others around them, and it becomes about they're decision to come to Christ. Jesus shows us that it is not about rushing into our Christian lives, he told the blind man to go home. Why? Think about it, a miracle just happened the man going home gave him time to focus his entire heart upon the Glory of God and thank him accordingly. When we become a Christian we should be spending the first few months home, in the Word, in Prayer giving thanks for our souls have been saved. This time is for us to humble ourselves and grow in our new found sight. To begin to understand the things around us, and what it is Christ truly did in our lives.
