The Lord gave the H2763-command to Moses. Joshua executed it on the cities in Canaan.

They fought against Joshua. Joshua H2763-destroyed them.

I like to imagine that they were infected with HIV, or some other deadly virus, or even infected with a deadly way of thinking and acting. There was no way for them to be saved in the long run. And as God was working to plant a tree (Israel) that would grow to bless the world, He had to use a Rototiller to tear up the soil, destroying other plants that would prevent the tree from growing. One can't have both a plot of land filled with brambles AND have that same plot of land nicely cultivated and growing food. It has to be one OR the other. God was making a judgement call and implementing a course of action for the net good of humanity.

It's like cutting a skin cancer off one's face. Not at all fun, but very necessary.

I like how you try to answer the tough questions many try to duck around, OP.

I agree. No doubt women & children included. But I don't think 'all' means 'everyone.' We find out they take captives, & some of the enemies we're told 'all', they still war w/ later. I'm not trying to poke holes in it, or deny there was a lot of enemy death, but I think all here means it was a complete & total victory, it was final, & yes, that did include women & children. But not 'everyone.'

That's interesting. Could be. The virus or something like that could've been an early warning they needed to repent.

They definitely had deadly ways of thinking & acting. Child sacrifice & temple prostitution to false gods + more common in those cultures.

We are to love our enemy. Corrie Tan Boon had an issue with this.

One day, after giving a talk in Munich in 1947, she was approached by one of the former guards from the Ravensbrück concentration camp where she had been imprisoned. This guard had been particularly cruel and was now seeking her forgiveness. He did not recognize her, but he told her that he had become a Christian and was asking for her forgiveness for all the horrible things he had done.

Corrie described the intense struggle she felt in that moment. She recounted how she stood there, frozen, unable to forgive him on her own. She silently prayed for the strength to forgive and eventually extended her hand to shake his, saying, "I forgive you, brother, with all my heart."
