This, from the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism:

'Historically, rates of regret in TGD people following hormone therapy and surgical interventions were thought to be quite rare. From 1972-2015, 6793 people sought gender-affirming services at the multidisciplinary gender identity clinic at the VU Medical Center in Amsterdam (2). All patients were screened by mental health specialists who determined whether patients were eligible for hormone therapy. Seventy percent were started on hormone therapy and 78% of this group went on to have gonadectomy. Among those that underwent gonadectomy, rates of regret were 0.6% for transwomen and 0.3% for transmen...' I'll repeat those figures: 0.6% for transwomen and 0.3% for transmen.

This is why I'm an advocate for God and his healing. As these 2 ex-trans people's testimonies point out, the cause for their gender dysphoria was not always known to them. I'm a believer that trauma alters a person's perception of themselves - particularly when that trauma happens at a young age. Even though this may not always be the root cause of the issue, it is quite common. This day and age though, the push from the fringes of society to make their ways the "norm" has been steadily increasing and we see the education of pre-pubescent children on the subjects of gender and sexuality, only compound the issue.

Often times, stats on desisting an detransitioning are often conflated and used interchangeably when they're actually not the same thing.

The actual detransition rates have been pretty low historically (less than 1% I believe).

I think the main concern is that, based on what we know about desistence rates (which are much higher between the ages of 8 and 15 than they are among ages 18+), facilitating actual transitions (actual transitions meaning anything beyond just social affirmation) too early could create an environment where the need for detransition procedures could rise 10 years down the road. If you've seen any of the videos or interviews with people who actually went through the process of detransitioning, they often have a rough life as some changes can't be undone.
