  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

(as per desert Island Discs but adapted):

You are about to be marooned on a desert island indefinitely, and you get to choose 8 chapters of the bible only to save with you to read. Which 8 would you choose?

You get the Psalm 119, Romans 8 and John 20 for free.

I'll give a little more detail about why I picked mine.

  • John 2 - Has the wedding at Cana story, Christ's first miracle and the role of Mary seemingly convincing Jesus to do it even though He sounds like He didn't want to.
  • Revelation 12 - More Marian stuff and the battle between Christ and the dragon.
  • John 16 - Jesus' discourse to the disciples, includes His promise to guide them to all truth by sending the Advocate, the Spirit.
  • Sirach 7 - I love this whole book, but the most passages I have copied out of it are from chap. 7. Contains wisdom like, "Do you have cattle? Look after them; if they are profitable to you, keep them."
  • Acts 27 (about a shipwreck :)) This chapter would make a great movie.
  • Luke 1 - The angel visits Mary, she says the Magnificat...
  • Matthew 5 - Encouraging words from Jesus, like how the birds are taken care of, so how much more you will be...
  • Genesis 3 - The Fall of Man, and the promise that the serpent's head will be crushed.

I borrowed the idea, and the person I borrowed from (Tom Wright) assumes that everyone would want John 20 (the most indepth resurrection narrative) and Romans 8 (the climax of that argument). So, like Desert Island disks that chucks in the Bible and the Complete Works of Shakespear so people have to think elsewhere....

I added Psalm 119 just to avoid the question of whether it's fair to have one that is so much longer than the rest.

My choices are in post number 5
