  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

For myself I tend to describe Heaven as a perfect place with no pain, worshiping the Lord forever. But is there more to it? I know about the Bema seat. We will not be judged for what we did wrong, for our sins. As Jesus washed those away on the cross. What we will be judged for is how well we used His resources. If we used them to build His Kingdom?
What scriptures? How would you describe Heaven?
Just a note: I am praying, and thinking about my blog post on my site. The post will be written for tomorrow.

I see Heaven as being just like it is here on earth, except perfect and without sin. Based on my understanding of scripture and research, I do believe it's not just a city, but much like the earth itself. There will be the city of God - New Jerusalem - where God Himself resides, and countries outside of the city. The Bible does mention that John didn't see any oceans, but I think that only applies to the main city itself. Outside the city, I'm sure there are oceans, beaches, rivers and all sorts of different biomes.

I can imagine there being an endless amount of things to do there, jobs to have (which will be exciting, not mundane), events, etc. We'll be able to visit family members, see pets that have past away, go exploring, engage in hobbies; whatever your interests were on earth, that will reflect what you'll be doing in Heaven. Many people also don't believe there will be marriage in Heaven (based on Matthew 22:30), but I personally disagree - in that verse, Jesus was stating that the law of marriage isn't necessary there (since two companions will be united under the will of God), and was basically telling the pharisees who were trying to find fault with Him that they had no idea what they're talking about. We'll also have glorified bodies, and there will be no pain, disease, or suffering of any kind. Our senses will also be greatly expanded; we may even be able to see colors there that we can't comprehend here.

The main thing that makes Heaven Heaven however is that God is there, and that everything will be done to His glory and in worship to Him. It will be an infinite chase of the glories of God. We'll spend the rest of eternity trying to fathom how much He loves us, and will never even get close to fully grasping it.

Hebrews 11:16
But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.

Revelation 21:22-27
And I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. By its light will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it, and its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there. They will bring into it the glory and the honor of the nations. ...

Revelation 21:21-25
And the twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of the gates made of a single pearl, and the street of the city was pure gold, transparent as glass.

2 Peter 3:13
But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

Revelation 21:1-5
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

Heaven, by Randy Alcorn

From the Inside Flap
Have you ever wondered . . .

What is Heaven really going to be like?
What will we look like?
What will we do every day?
Won't Heaven get boring after a while?

We all have questions about what Heaven will be like, and after twenty-five years of extensive research, Dr. Randy Alcorn has the answers.

In the most comprehensive and definitive book on Heaven to date, Randy invites you to picture Heaven the way Scripture describes it-a bright, vibrant, and physical New Earth, free from sin, suffering, and death, and brimming with Christ's presence, wondrous natural beauty, and the richness of human culture as God intended it.

God has put eternity in our hearts. Now, Randy Alcorn brings eternity to light in a way that will surprise you, spark your imagination, and change how you live today.

If you've always thought of Heaven as a realm of disembodied spirits, clouds, and eternal harp strumming, you're in for a wonderful surprise.

This is a book about real people with real bodies enjoying close relationships with God and each other, eating, drinking, working, playing, traveling, worshiping, and discovering on a New Earth. Earth as God created it. Earth as he intended it to be.

And the next time you hear someone say, "We can't begin to imagine what Heaven will be like," you will be able to tell them, ""I can.""
