NAME: Dermot, which means “free man”

GENDER: Male

RACE: Gaulish Celt

AGE: 11

OCCUPATION: Street musician

RELIGION: Gaulish Celtic mythology focused almost exclusively on the god of light, Belenus, whom he talks to all the time. He considers him to be a perfect god, and attributes all good things to him.

APPEARANCE: He’s appears a couple of years younger than he actually is because of malnutrition. He has short, disheveled red hair and brown, which he is able to make look piteously sad to conniving in a split second. He wears a sort of shapeless floppy hat and oversized tunic to make himself seem even smaller and more helpless than he actually is. He has a clay ocarina that his mother gave him. He and his clothes are usually dirty. This with normal ears. His ocarina probably looks more like this than what's in that picture.

PERSONALITY: He’s a clever little fellow who uses his small, pitiful self to survive. He’s good at acting, and can make almost anybody pity him when he looks at them with his big, sad hazel eyes. He's been able to be free for all this time by the fact that most assume that he's a slave by his skin color, and if they find out differently, they usually feel too sorry for him to put him in the slave block. He loves music (which he has become very good at performing on his ocarina), and making up stories. He’s made good friends with the kitchen help at King Javior Holt’s palace.

HISTORY: His parents were Celts who lived in the valleys of the Alps. They were both very musically talented. His father had it in his heart to travel, and his wife reluctantly agreed. While sailing from one land to the next, their ship came to close to Atlantis and was instantly sunk while the survivors (including Dermot’s parents) were put on the slave block. His father was sent to the crystal mines, while his mother was sold to a rich nobleman and was treated terribly. It was not long after she was sold that she discovered that she was with child. She gave birth to a son and named him Dermot, determined that he would be free. Because of her master’s many slaves, she was able to hide the child for five years, in which she taught him about his Celtic heritage, how to play the ocarina, and how to survive on the streets. He was able to escape then, and has been living on the streets since. When he escaped was the last time he has seen his mother. He still misses her from time to time, and he often dreams about the alpine valleys that she told him about in his youth, which have become a sort of perfect dreamland to him.
