If it were for my friend I think I would just pick up the phone and start ringing the local counselling services, and make sure they have up to date qualifications, experience etc. I'd probably avoid church type counselling as I heard they don't always have the necessary qualifications (remember, anyone can set themselves up as a counsellor), plus you probably wouldn't want to deprogramme them, only for the person to fill their head with Christian mumbo jumbo, even if their intentions aren't sinister.

The only cult I've ever had any experience with was the International Churches of Christ - Boston Movement. Reveal dot org has some great resources and contact information of former members and professional counselors. Even though most of their expertise lies in the ICoC, they still may have information/referrals for counselors in your area.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but this may be a good place to start.

I found a book by Steve Hassan to be very informative on the subject. The website of his group (I hope I can post it) is here http://www.freedomofmind.com/

He is opposed to the more aggresive forms of deprograming.

Also, avoid the Cult Awareness Network. They used to be a real group but were sued, bankrupted and brought out by Scientolgy and now run as a front for them.

Wow he's expensive. I'm trying to connect with someone through my health insurance right now; but not sure if they will be able to hook me up with someone who can help me.

I just ordered Hassan's book "Combatting Cult Mind Control: The #1 Best-selling Guide to Protection, Rescue, and Recovery from Destructive Cults" so we'll see how that goes. Thanks a lot!!
