• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I've suffered from depression for years but never plucked up the courage to go to the doctors about it. The thing is, it seems to come and go. I can be fine for a few weeks (not manic at all, just fine), then I get a few weeks where I REALLY struggle to get through every day. This cycle seems to go on continuously for several years. I know a lot of it is due to stuff that I have been through, but is it normal for depression to come and go like this?

Hi Kayjay. I know a doctor who did a presentation on mental health and dealt with depression. He gives so me really good insight. Let me know if you're interested in viewing this presentation. If you're hesitant about going to a doctor, you can use this as a first step.

I would say yes - absolutely, actually.

Among depression I have OCD, insomnia, dyslexia, ADHD, and germaphobia. All of that means nothing, I am just providing perspective.

There are people out here really "messed up in the 'head'," but in the end it doesn't matter either.

On a very scientific note, the waves of depression you may feel are perfectly natural - as natural as sinusoidal waves.

Every day should be a struggle because life is incredibly hard. Think about all the atrocities in life: it is a blessing any of us will ourselves out of bed at all.

The fact you feel the way you do may be a good indicator you are moving along the right path in life. I would say worry of you wake up with no worries or qualms about the new day; then you should seek out help.

Most all the biblical heroes were depressed despite their fame we acknowledge today. Even Christ resonated with our suffering, although He was only one of very few of us who could keep it together 100% of the time (He is [the word of] God after all.)

Talk to our Father.

If encourage you to get medical or non-medical interventions as you need.

Here is a really good resource that has helped me recently in my 20 year plus struggle with quite severe mental illness. It goes through this very question you are asking and many others. Spend some time looking at all the items to see if any of it speaks to you:
