Help for a christian brother who has been diagnosed depression..I would love any bible scriptures to help him be uplifted spiritually..thanks
At the moment I can't give you scriptures, but let me tell you something. I suffered from chronic depression my entire life and was supernaturally delivered from it. I haven't suffered a minute from it since, so be of good cheer, yours is a mighty God that can move strongly on your behalf...

Psalm 107, 121 and many other psalms are quite touching. There are many psalm where the writer is suffering or in need for help and he sings, shouts or whispers to God.

Another thing is that you yourself can be a letter from God for him.

May God bless you both.

Just a question, does this dude have anger issues:confused: Repressed anger can cause depression. Praising Jesus is key! I read tiz impossible to be under one's circumstances while praising Jesus! Instead of worrying over problems that makes them seem worse, worship magnifies God Most High who will help!

GBY in the Christian love you displaying, seeking godly counsel for a friend!

Nehemiah 8:10 Then he said to them, "Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength."

Psalm 18:1-2, 28-29, 32-33 I will love You, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold...For You will light my lamp; the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness. For by You I can run against a troop, by my God I can leap over a wall...It is God who arms me with strength, and makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the feet of deer, and sets me on my high places.

Psalm 34:1, 18 I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth...The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit.

Psalm 37:3-5 Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.

Psalm 40:1-3 I waited patiently for the LORD; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps. He has put a new song in my mouth--Praise to our God; many will see it and fear, and will trust in the LORD.

Psalm 42:11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise Him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Psalm 103:1-2 Bless the LORD, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.

Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.'

Isaiah 53:3-5 He is despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.

Jeremiah 17:7-8 "Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, and whose hope is the LORD. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; but its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit.

Jeremiah 29:11-14 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart. I will be found by you," declares the LORD...

Matthew 11:28-30 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.

Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Ephesians 3:14-21 For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height--to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

1 Peter 5:6-7 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

I know a qualified nurse of almost 40years who is also an awesome Christian. Shes a real woman of God... One of her beliefs is that depression is a real spiritual battle. "Our fight is not against flesh and blood, but against powers and prinicipalities"

Why dont you seek a really wise Christian to guide you in councelling. Pray against the depression, and repeat the scriptures that HumbleBee has quoted.

God Bless, metal.

jwholovesthelord,

I don't know what you are going through, but I can offer you two verses that have comforted me when going through spiritual battles -- John 16:33 "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." -- Isaiah 53:5 "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed"

I will pray for you,
Matt

Job 19:25
"I know that my Redeemer lives"

Job went through a lot of suffering, and like many of us who have struggled with depression, he had plenty of advice offered to him, some of it rather unsympathetic!

But in the end, this thought that God reassured him with must have been the greatest comfort.

Quoting "encouraging" scripture may sometimes be counterproductive as a depressed person may be unable to perceive it positively, or even be able to think properly, so do remember that when choosing a quote.

Short and sweet is best in my experience - think of your friend as an invalid who needs small, tasty, easily digested snacks to strengthen him.

God blesss, Susana
