• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

This may not be the answer for all, but if you have someone you really love, and that loves you it will give you joy in your heart (and inspire your mind).

Some people have what may be called the gift of celibacy (eg. Paul) but even he/they needed beauty & love in their lives - for him it was the church.

Without this you may experience a dull heart-ache and lack-lustre - low energy.

I find it helpful, even neccessary to be totally honest, then you see cleary and know what to ask for.

"ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full." (John 16v24)

Psalm 84:11: For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory:
no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

.. .if we lack any good thing, we just need to walk uprightly (agree with God's thoughts and follow his desires),
then we know what to expect !!

Eccl. 7:29: Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.

We deceive ourselves and get distracted from the way to walk uprightly.
Can't we all say we've been our own worst enemies, telling ourselves to accept even expect negative things when
God actually says the reverse ?

Hi everyone:wave:

Getting some sunshine in God's great outdoors has always been a favorite of mine. I like to run, so I put on the ear phones playing praise and worship and off I go, observing all the godly creations like wildlife, flowers, clouds, mountains along the way.

For me music is a big help so if you are able to play an instrument (or it might be something you want to take up) it helps.

Even just playing some of my favorite music on my i-tunes helps a bit, if I really don't feel like physically playing.

Thank you for all the tips. Exercise is a good thing to help depression. Exercising 3 or 4 times a week can make a big difference if you are able to.

Ruth, I just want to thank you again for starting this thread. You'll never know how many times I have come here to see what other's have shared :) So many times, it's things I find help me too. At other times, it gives me an idea of something new to try.

I go to the humane society and I've adopted an needy pet a few times now.
I'd love to volunteer at a humane society but the closest one to where I live is like 35 minutes away. Plus, I'm not comfortable driving to that location.

- Looking at old photos.
- Watching/listening to live shows, for example concerts, stand-up comedy etc. It especially helps if you were there or at one of their other shows.
- Stay up all night with friends being silly and sleep-deprived
- Remember that somewhere in the world, someone loves you. If you're convinced (wrongly) that there is no one, God does - 'Through his power all things were made - things in heaven and on earth, things seens and unseen, all powers, authorities, lords and rulers. All things were made through Christ and for Christ.' Colossians 1:16 - God created you to rejoice in your existance! How cool is that!
