• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello, I've been dealing with depression for most of my life...I just wanted to come here and introduce myself as cacem. I've been in a pretty dark place for the past few years and I am working hard to come up out of this pit. I hope to be able to give and receive support here.

Like i just said in another thread, people see only the outside of you. They dont see the fires raging within.

Depression, anxiety etc can be debilitating. I understand myself. I am a fellow sufferer. Not sure if you have sought medical advice, i guess you have. That is the first step. Managing it is very difficult though.

At least you are here among friends and fellow sufferers. I am sure God guided you here.

Thank you for the support and encouragement. I have sought professional help and am working hard to learn how to manage things, it’s definitely not easy.

I agree. It is very difficult indeed. I have been suffering for 20 years now. Its been full of ups and downs. Mostly downs. I dont know what keeps me going at times. Through it all though, i still love God.

Anxiety and depression etc, can be very hard to carry through life. I dont think i could do it without knowing that God is there holding my hand. I am sure He is with you. Its a matter of fighting on through the turmoil of everyday life. I hope that God makes it easier for you.

Definitely God is there, holding my hand, even when I don't "feel" Him, I know He is there. I think the biggest help for me right now is just all the support I'm receiving and really talking openly about my issues with my treatment team and trusted friends. It helps to know I'm not alone. God has made it easier in that sense. I hope He makes it easier for you, too...you are worthy of love and support, and of living life in abundance because you're a child of God.

My sometimes overwhelming anxiety and depression is a carryover from being abused as a child . Yoga, art, and dance helped a lot . I’ve taken anti anxiety meds and they left me zonked out. So I hated using them but did when necessary. I know some Christians hate yoga or tai chi and I thank God fervently that my sect wasn’t one of them.

Same issues, I’m working hard to get through abuse/trauma. It has had a negative impact on my life for far too long...I’m ready for God to use it for the good because I love Him and am called according to His purpose and I believe there is an ultimate purpose for my suffering (though I don’t believe God causes it).

I’m glad you have found a healthy outlet to help you manage the anxiety. I am on meds and they seem to be helping with no side effects, thankfully.

The anxiety makes me rigid which hurts after a while especially as I’ve gotten older. The dance and yoga loosen me up and there’s also a biochemical effect on your endorphins which you can feel. ( I’ve got a bio degree.) Endorphins are pain and anxiety reducing hormones that your body produces naturally. This is why you don’t feel that tiny scratch after a few hours. Yoga or vigorous exercise makes your body produce them. So I always recommend them to others.

YouTube has a lot of beginning ballet for adults and beginning yoga videos. With these I always tell people that if you feel more than a mild stretch twinge or a slight over exercise soreness then you’re doing something wrong. It usually takes about 3-8 weeks before you stop feeling those twinges if you’re a couch potato .

Welcome. There are some great people here. The “What are you feeling” thread is quite long and has been around a long time. It has become the sort of “greeting place” where the regulars check in with each other. Hope to see you there and you will stay around.

I am a retired trucker with a few years in full time missions. Married 33 years, no kids. I was on meds diagnosed with chemical imbalance depression in 1988. Now that I am retired 5+ years, I am no longer on meds except for the occasional difficult time which I have learned to see coming beforhand. Volunteer work, going to the gym and being a musician, along with prayer and Bible study seem to be very helpful in controlling things.

You sound like you have a healthy view of things. I’m sure you can be a great comfort and asset to others here as well as gaining love and support in your own times of need. God bless.

Thank you for the encouragement! I'll check out that thread.

I am married for 18 years, we have three kids. I've been struggling with mental illness for as long as I can remember and I am working on trying to find ways to manage it. It really does my heart good to hear how you have been able to manage it and I find it encouraging, especially volunteer work, praying and Bible Study...those are things that I want to desperately get back onto on a consistent basis.

I'm looking forward to getting to know others better and giving and receiving support here. :)
