• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

it does for me; however i really cling to scriptures that put out this firey lie. i also continue ministering to others because it help me to keep seeking Him and His will. sometimes it's difficult to pray for myself, but easy to pray to others. then, before i know it, i'm back on track.
another thing the helps me, is watch from the outside how my circumstances touch others. it seems like every dark spell i have, enables me to help others or get some long over due ministering to me.

you want to talk about your exsperiances? ~ love dee

When I get to being Depressive, as I actually have been recently, I am left to feel as though GOD, is an absentee Landlord.

It took me 14 years of drinking and drugging and one year, here at The CF, to see that I've not been left behind.

I had to lose 40% of my Liver function, in order to see that, my Family, Friends, Counselors and my (Power-Friends), around the World, gave a hoot about me.

I struggle everyday. I likely will, for the rest of my life. My point is, that I found the good people and the good IN people.

I'm a lucky man today and I offer you my thoughts and ideas and opinions, any time you like. :)

I, too, have often felt "abandoned" by the Lord and as the others have noted, I have had to turn to the scriptures for assurance. I think all believers deal with this to some extent in their lives, but those of us with this illness have even more severe periods of doubt and confusion. I have made the mistake for years of thinking that my emotional state actually reflected the state of my relationship with the Lord. At times, of course, there was real guilt associated with sin, but often there was not reason at all for my state of mind. I have had to learn the hard way to trust what the scriptures teach us concerning God's faithfulness to us. It is not associated with an emotional state - something I bought into when I was a young Christian, but on the fact that God is there and He has not been silent with respect to our condition as men nor has He left us without hope. We can stand firmly on the "FACT" that He is for us - as He demonstrated so clearly by sending His Son to the cross and raising Him from the dead for our justification. I am severely depressed and anxious myself at this time. Out of work for almost a year, terrible disappointed that I lost a very good job, health insurance, blah blah blah ... forgive me. And I have to deal with the fact that I made some mistakes with meds and not building a support network. But I know in my heart that God has not abandoned me - because He has said so. We live and breathe and have our being in Him. Regardless of whether we "feel" it - If our heart condems us - we have this confidence, that having placed our lives in His hands, we are not condemned but will see a substantial healing in this life and a full and complete healing when we go to Him (or He comes first to us).
As for me, I am so anxious for that day. So anxious to live in His presence and to be in "full" fellowship with all the angels and saints who have made the journey home. What a time indeed it will be... Hang in there my friend and remember He will never forsake you.

MrHollow,
I wanted to apologize for my answer previously. I sometimes forget the terrible times when I have seriously doubted God and even my own salvation.
At times, I have been angry with God as well. I am sorry - my answer was just not appropriate to how serious a time that can be. I will pray for you.
Take care of yourself.

I agree with the post about praying for others. I have recently come under some depressive feelings and an elder member of the church, a real holy man in my opinion told me about praying for others being a quick way to release yourself from snares. Also, go deep into the Word. The Holy Spirit once said to me that the Word is your friend. And as simple as it sounded it was profound at the time. Time with a dear friend is fun and healing!

Honestly sometimes I feel like god just likes watching us suffer, like it's amusing or something. I mean that's just how it feels to me sometimes. :/

I know this is just how you feel at times, I think all of us have had moments like those. I do hope you know that our Lord is grieved as much as we are by the suffering in this world and takes no pleasure in it. His promise is that one day this age will be over and a new age will begin when all evil will have been overcome and put down. Until that time, we do what we can to alleviate the suffering of others and our selves. Not fun, but it is the direct consequence of man's rebellion and separation from God, from each other, from ourselves even, from nature too. The problem of evil is what you are struggling with: you might find C.S.Lewis's book "The Problem of Pain" helpful. There are other good books also. Obviously no easy answers especially in the particular cases of individuals (why is hard to answer when we are finite creatures and lack the capacity of understanding such issues, only the Lord knows that kind of detail).

Sorry - not meant to be a criticsm - just me ruminating about what you said. I hope it helps some.
