  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Its about time they had a young Bond. All secret agents can't be geriatric.
But a young Bond betrays Fleming's original vision of a mature (late 30s-early 40s), alcoholic, chain-smoking misogynist! ;) Seriously though, it's difficult to picture someone my age as having that combination of professional experience (007 is the top agent at MI6), sophistication, breadth of knowledge and aura of superiority 007 possesses. I know that James Bond movies are all about suspension of disbelief, but still...

True, but Fleming's original Bond was betrayed when Dr. No was made. The James Bond of the movies tends to much more NICE than the James Bond of the books.

Timothy Dalton was probably the Bond that was most true to the books.

True, very true... :sigh:

Timothy Dalton was probably the Bond that was most true to the books.
Again, very true... Although Brosnan has come close in a few moments here and there.

I don't think it's right to compare the books to the movies, print Bond vs. film Bond. The way I see it is they're two completely different entities. People compare movies to books all the time - just not right. Just 'cause Fleming's Bond was one type of man certainly does NOT mean today's Bond has to fit that image.

For the record - i am completely against a 28-32 year old Commander Bond. A geriatric Bond? No, we don't want Q to make James a new hip joint but he's gotta not be youthful and 28-32, unless you've been working in a coal mine, is still quite youthful. He's gotta have some years on him, some experience. I've been happy with Connery's years, Brosnan's years, fairly happy with Roger Moore, less happy with Dalton, and no opinion on the one hit wonder what's-his-name. I'm not happy Brosnan doesn't want to do more Bond movies. I don't understand it but it's his choice and for goodness sakes, they're just movies!

You mean George Lazenby? :p

By my understanding, it was the Broccoli estate that killed Brosnan-as-Bond. It seems that they have the final say in just about everything pertaining to 007 onscreen...
