See I believe that if you are going to come here you should make an effort to learn English like real effort ( if for nothing else so you can communicate out in soceity. Even if the person never wishes to become a citizen which with VERY few exceptions to become a citizen you MUST know English as both an oral and written test is required. The exception is for elderly people looking o become a citizen. Still why would you come here and NOT at least try to learn the anguage even if you had NO plans to ever beome and citizen,

I'm actually okay with separating them out. Let's start with the criminals that have done things to land themselves in jail. I say let them finish their sentences and then be deported. I would then begin with the gangs like MS13 who are filled with illegals.

Once that has been completed we start working on those who aren't violent offenders, but are still here illegally. I would combine that with strict enforcement against any business who has hired them. Including making the businesses check to see if the person is legal through the verify procedure.

I would leave asylees alone at this point.
A progressive approach combined with enforcement against businesses will begin to alter the landscape for the future.

If the Trump administration actually goes so far as to mandate the use of e-verify I will be astonished and repent of my cynicism about Republican immigration policy.

That's exactly why it's the asylum seekers have to go, but not the illegals. You can call asylum seekers "illegal" all you want, but the fact is that they are here legally and cannot be exploited in that way.

Yes there is, and it is being followed, but the process is slow and the number of people trying to follow it is overwhelming.

It depends on how far over backwards they're willing to bend. Like I said, most of these folks knew what they were doing was illegal and that they could get deported. If I decided to move to Canada illegally, I wouldn't be saying that I was being treated unfairly if they sent me back here. I'd say oh well I gave it a shot and it didn't workout.

I agree they knew te risk the question really is are we willing to expect people to rat or go door to door. I say we give those here long term a path to citizenship NOT allow them to stay here without it and tighten the border.

It would violate the equal protection clause. A citizen or permanent resident who commits a crime has to serve a prison sentence. An illegal alien who commits the same crime is merely sent back to his home country free and clear?

Well, I am not sure if it would really be free and clear as if they were deported there would still be a record meaning they would get in even MORE trouble if they came over here again.

For each year an inmate is in prison it costs usually 10,000s to keep them locked up if we deport them we would spend the money once.

Big deal. The point is they have escaped just punishment that US citizens and legal residents have to endure. If I go to another state and am arrested for commiting a crime there, the authorities are not going to say, "Oh, he is not a resident of this state, let's just send him back to where he came from."
