What are the different topics and views that make for the different denominations?

I'm not familiar with what beliefs align with what denominations and am curious about it.

I love the fact how the Churches of Christ don't have a governing body so we really can't have an "official" viewpoint on anything.

None of the denominations really matter. Just find the truth in the bible

Most of them have to do with differences of opinion / belief on

Baptism
Eternal Salvation
Eternal Security
Revelations
Hell - Eternal, Annihilation, Doesn't exist at all
Everyone goes to heaven, only specific way to get to heaven
How we are saved - Works or Grace / Faith
Rules - What types of music, dancing, clothing etc are acceptable
Genesis - Literal 6 days or Evolution
Whether or not there's a Holy Trinity

Those are the main ones I can think of atm

The Presbyterians and the Reformed Churches, along with many, but not all, Baptist denominations believe in Calvinism
this is a system of beliefs that have at the core the total depravity of natural man and that Grace from God is irresistible. The emphasis is on the sovereignty of God, which all Christians believe in, but not all all Christians interpret in the same way as Calvinists

are the Sacraments just symbols or do they confir real grace, that is also an issue that divides denominations

Justification, Communion, and Baptism seem to be the big differences.

merit vs. grace. How is grace conferred? Is the will active in obtaining grace, and to what degree? Free grace vs. Arminianism.

the real presence (as in you are actually putting Jesus in your mouth) vs. Calvin's(and the various Reformed churches) doctrine that by faith you ascend to heaven to spiritually feast on Christ there vs. Zwingli's idea the bread and wine are just symbols.

Is baptism for infants or just older children and adults? Does baptism save or is it a symbol or does it do something else besides save?

Bible- literal or philosophical, metaphorical, symbolic, relevance
Spirit vs Flesh- eternal damnation, proof of salvation
Fellowship- unity of the body
Atonement- what did it accomplish beyond heaven or hell

Zwingli was the first to propagate the belief that the Eucharist is only symbolic

That's what pneumatic presence is? I'd never gotten a good explanation on exactly what it entailed.

Certainly makes it easier to point out that that's nothing like the Methodist view (which holds to a non-explicitly-defined Real Presence that acts as an active re-presentation of the Last Supper). When the only thing they mention about the Calvinist view is 'spiritual' presence, it can get a bit confused.

independent baptist churches
united methodist churches
united church of christ churches

and just be open about what your think.

that would make for a fun couple months.

I have gone to a few different ones already, but it would be nice to have a better idea where to start.
I've gone to one or two that I found I did not agree with and felt my time was wasted.

politics really make a difference. are you right wing conservative facist? or left wing liberal socialist?

republicans help those who can help themselves, versus the other side.

that really divides Christians.

the rest of the dividing doesn't seem to make much difference. I go to both, btw.

I am all over the board with my opinions which seems to be part of my problem in fitting in with any group, but it seems worse with religion..
