I got it, and i do see the benefits to it...But i still think alot of the denomination specific things do and can lead to legalist bondage thing. tounges tithes infant baptisms catechisms promoting the 10 commandments

I do not attend any church of and denomination currently, so they do not answer my questions at all, though I do have some very good sources if I have questions that I can ask.

I did, when I was born again in 1980 at the age of 5. Just a few years after my parents did too...my dad leaving the rcc and my mom, well, from a largely agnostic background.

The Bible is not a mysterious book written for only for super intellectuals to read and understand. God ordained so that every man can read it and understand it if he is saved. Didn't you learn anything from Luther?

The Bible is not simple. This much is obvious. If it were simple, then there wouldn't be so many (or perhaps no) denominations. Of course, Luther was the one who sparked the "personal interpretation validity" movement...

Obviously, the overall message from the Bible can be gleaned from reading it. Anyone who is literate can decipher the basic idea of man falls, Jesus comes down to save, Jesus is hung on the cross for the forgiveness of sins, Jesus saves. However, the deeper meaning of the Bible, i.e. that which is necessary to understand when forming complex doctrine, is not simple, and is generally beyond personal interpretation.

I love how *almost* every Protestant INSISTS that the Bible is so clear, so understandable, so completely obvious in its teaching. That is one of the most irrational but oft-repeated things I've ever heard. If the Bible, standing by itself, were so clear, I would be able to open it up on a whim and settle every major theological controversy in the history of Christendom. And no one would be able to contradict me without looking insane or incredibly stupid. The Bible is only "clear" when you're reading it inside a tradition (each with its own "big picture"), whether it's a Methodist tradition, Calvinist, Adventist, or even your own individualistic mix-and-match tradition. I choose Sacred Tradition!

This whole convoluted, yes-it's-clear-but-sometimes-it-isn't defense of self-interpretation sounds like an extra to me.

I say that because I don't remember the Bible ever teaching the reader how to interpret it. I only remember St. Paul telling his readers to hold tightly to everything the Apostles taught them, to the traditions they received. Which is exactly what the Catholic Church has done for about 2000 years.

So you can have your man-made rules about how to interpret the Bible, but I think you'd be better off with St. Paul.
