Democrats fracturing as their failures aren't being appreciated

Reagan would never have advocated the gutting of our health care industry with a government run monstrocity, which is why the Reagan = OBama comparison doesn't hold a drop of water with me.

Remember, it was Reagan who said, "Government is not the solution to the problem, government is the problem" and "The eleven most frightening words in the English language are 'Hello. I'm from the government and I'm here to help you'.'"

Reagan was not anti-government, but believed, as did the Founders, that the purpose of government is to uphold the God-ordained liberty of its citizens.

"Not since the days of the Roman emperors—and never in the history of the United States Presidency—has an astrologer played such a significant role in the nation's affairs of State."

(Joan Quick, astrologer to the Reagans)

Where's Joan Quick when we need her?

She was the real brains behind the Reagan Administration!

That's correct. People forget that the President can't do much of anything to stop spending if there is a majority of his opponents in congress that want to. Reagan may have been a spender, but compared to Bush and even more so Obama, he was a penny pincher.

A penny pincher?!? Another example of the myth of Reagan not lining up with the reality. If he was such a penny pincher, please remind me of how many spending bills he vetoed?

Obama didn't do that either nor has he advocated it. Analogy fail.

It's just like anything with politics I suppose. Once you start tying your identity to a particular person or idea, that person or idea can never be wrong (lest you, as a person, are wrong)

Well that's just foolish. Reagan was a man. He was a person just like me. I mean, I liked some of the things he did, but he was capable of mistakes, just as I am.

Honestly, the only thing I get tired of is hearing "the two sides of Reagan." Either he walked on water, or he couldn't do a dang thing right. Both views are bull.

Now, with some presidents, it's harder to figure out one or the other- Obama and Clinton are two presidents I'm still struggling to find good in, but I AM trying.

Can I just point something out that had me laughing, Blue?

You're 28, and talking about a president whose last term was finishing before you were able to remember anything about it. :D^_^:D^_^

It's nothing bad, it just struck me as humorous all of a sudden! ;)

It's not an insult. It's just that as you get older, you just realize that having lived through something gives you a better understanding that merely having read about it after the fact.

I feel that way when discussing Nixon. It's like I know many of the facts but I'll never have a true understanding of the context of the era.

Start with this: Nixon was not a bad guy. He was an extremely troubled person and misguided president. He truly thought the things he did, he was doing for the noblest of reasons but he was surrounded by people who pushed him into a Machiavellian mindset until he started to believe it, himself.

People will remember him for Watergate, of course, and his social awkwardness, but he was on the right track in several areas.

It's unfortunate. Like George Wallace, he became a much more sympathetic character as the years went by. I think a lot of people would be surprised to learn just how close he came to being named the commissioner of baseball.

LOL You're welcome, I guess!

Seriously, it just struck me as funny all of a sudden, and I had to share it with you. Nothing mean there at all.

Wasn't an insult- However, your post history tells me that this post speaks from experience and conviction. Perhaps a little less ambition to provoke another would be best.
