But what reason would there be from taking away the right to vote?
Actions have consequences. They should have thought of that before they engaged in criminal activity. If you can’t do the time don’t do the crime. It is. But why? I can understand the reason in taking away the right to a firearm if the person has shown that he might be violent. But what reason would there be from taking away the right to vote? Other than being a further punishment.
If you can run for president after being convicted, surely you can vote for one.
The delicious irony of being able to run for office but not vote for oneself for being a convicted felon is lost on you, I guess?Actions have consequences. They should have thought of that before they engaged in criminal activity. If you can’t do the time don’t do the crime.
No. I know a Sheriff who was arrested and went to prison for taking pay offs from people who sold alcohol in a dry county. They got him for tax evasion. After he got out of prison he was elected again. He was the only Sheriff in the state who couldn’t carry a firearm. The delicious irony of being able to run for office but not vote for oneself for being a convicted felon is lost on you, I guess?
Well, yeah. But why that particular right and not others? Just another punishment?Actions have consequences. They should have thought of that before they engaged in criminal activity. If you can’t do the time don’t do the crime.
That's just...weird.No. I know a Sheriff who was arrested and went to prison for taking pay offs from people who sold alcohol in a dry county. They got him for tax evasion. After he got out of prison he was elected again. He was the only Sheriff in the state who couldn’t carry a firearm.
Well along the lines of what @Ana the Ist said, they could vote for initiatives that furthered their ability to be criminals and not in the best interest of societyWell, yeah. But why that particular right and not others? Just another punishment?
True story. I had to go to that county because a meth dealer I was investigating loaned his truck to a couple of meth heads that got busted there and that Sheriff”s grandson worked at my department. That's just...weird.
We could all do that. And I'm at a loss to think of a government policy that would specifically help a felon. That's too much of a stretch for me to accept.Well along the lines of what @Ana the Ist said, they could vote for initiatives that furthered their ability to be criminals and not in the best interest of society
What about an initiative to give convicted felons amnesty and clear their criminal records? We could all do that. And I'm at a loss to think of a government policy that would specifically help a felon. That's too much of a stretch for me to accept.
Stayed the night in Ozona in the middle of Texas once. Went to the local bar (I think there was only 2) for a brew and a bite. Was told: Sorry, were a dry county. What the..? You're a bar. There are people drinking here. Ah, but they're in the social club. You need to be a member. Well...ok. How much to join. Five bucks. I joined and the barmaid had no trouble me buying two drinks and my wife drinking one of them.True story. I had to go to that county...
Good idea. Be an upright citizen for X% of your sentence and you're clear. What about an initiative to give convicted felons amnesty and clear their criminal records?

Picture the scene.Actions have consequences. They should have thought of that before they engaged in criminal activity. If you can’t do the time don’t do the crime.
You seem to know the criminal mind so well. Do you really want to allow someone who thinks this way to vote? I would say most never vote anyway.Picture the scene.
Felon: I could rob that old lady there. She's weak and helpless and there s her bulging purse. I might get caught and be sent to prison. It's a risk worth taking. 'If you can't do the time don't do the crime!' Oh, Wait! I would lose my right to vote! Forget it. I'm going straight from now on.

Its the same for some of the ideological beliefs taught in State schools and Universities regarding sex, gender and race. There is no evdience for them and yet they underpin the curriculum. Belief doesn't have to be limited to traditional religion to be taught as fact in education.Just a point here. Creationism is a religious belief. That is why it is banned. ID wants to be taught and says it's not a religious belief and it has evidence. Therefore they can make a case for it.
Unfortunately for them their case fails because the evidence is inept. But that's why we need the evidence (as opposed to 'it is written'); so we can make that decision.
Sheriff Taylor didn't carry a gun either, he left the shooting iron to Deputy Fife.No. I know a Sheriff who was arrested and went to prison for taking pay offs from people who sold alcohol in a dry county. They got him for tax evasion. After he got out of prison he was elected again. He was the only Sheriff in the state who couldn’t carry a firearm.
I want EVERYONE to vote, (okay some are going to be morally suspect, or worse, I’ll grant you, but being astute politically has nothing to do with being a sociopathic criminal). You seem to know the criminal mind so well. Do you really want to allow someone who thinks this way to vote? I would say most never vote anyway.
