  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I hope it is ok that I post here. I am not looking for a debate, but ask out of curiosity. There are numerous Christian denominations. Can Christians help me out by telling my the main difference among various denominations? Thanks.

Hi GettinInTune,
The main differences are multivaried, and are rooted in the denomination's historical background. There are different theological emphases, cultural differences, different liturgical (worship) styles, and even national differences. The major branches of Christianity are the Roman Catholic Church, the Eastern Orthodox, the Protestant churches and the Oriental Orthodox. Probably the Protestant differences are the most visible because of their prominence in the US.

Protestant denominations are typically grouped along historical lines beginning with the Reformation. Later movements and historical figures in Protestant history gave rise to additional groups, denominations, and views. For example the modernist-fundamentalist controversy in the 1900s divided many Protestant denominations along conservative and liberal lines.

That's a bit of a generic answer, but feel free to ask more questions...

Hi :)
Well basically, there are three major groups: Roman Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, and Protestants. There are many different types of Protestants.
Most Christians agree with the Nicene Creed, but disagree on some doctrines and have slightly different worship styles.
Are you looking for more historical information, or more in terms of beliefs? There is a lot to say on this topic, but I'm not sure what exactly you are looking for. Can you please make your question more specific? It would be easier to go into detail then.

cheers
