Remember the childhood game "Red light -green light" where you and others lined up on a line across from a leader. When the leader said "Green light." you could start moving forward, until they said "Red light."
The "Temptation Game" is just called "Red light."
As soon as any thought comes into your head that you know will lead you eventually to being tempted, just say "Red light," either silently or out loud. Then will yourself to start thinking about something else. If the wrong thought persists, persist in saying "Red light" and striving to think of something else.
2Co 10:5 says "Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ:"
This has worked for me. I hope it works for you. It may take some practice and effort at first, but depending on how bad you want to control your thoughts, you will see your own level of success.

Do you use amber light as well? Get ready to stop?
Not when it comes to temptation. Stop needs to come as fast as possible. If I used an amber light, that might be just enough for "the devil" to get in a little more deceiving temptation.

Ironic that I am getting more help with my faith from Protestants than I was in Catholic sub-forums. (oops might be some reading now) :)
LOL. I don't consider my self a Protestant. I am not protesting. I am just a Christian. I have attended a lot of Baptist churches as a member, but didn't usually like being considered a Baptist much. I pastored a Non-denominational church for 16 years, after attending one for about four. I would rather be associated with Christ than a denomination. Just sharing.

Some Catholics are very proud of being known as Catholics rather than Christians. Which doesn't make sense to me really.

I know. I have asked a number of people "Are you a Christian?" and they have responded "No, I am a Catholic." I didn't understand that at first either. I think they equate "Christians" with Non-Catholic followers of Christ, and so they want to show their loyalty to the name of "Catholic", or at least inform the questioner that that is what they are.
