  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I love hunting. It's my #1 passion. Don't get me wrong, I do have my priorities. God, Family, then hunting, and I guess work should be in there somewhere. As you can tell, I'm from NC, and that's where I do all of my hunting. Haven't really had much opportunity to go out of state on any hunting trips yet, but maybe one day I'll get to head up to Canada for a big ole moose or caribou.

Just to tell a little on myself;

I'm an avid hunter and outdoorsman. I don't hunt for sport, but for the meat and for the time that I get to spend with God, nature, and my children. There have been many days that I have sat in a treestand and not seen anything at all. Those are really the days that I get to see the most, the days where I get to reflect back on the past and come to a better understanding of Gods plan for me. I can think back to the times when my father took me out hunting for the first time and the day I took my son out for his first. My time in the woods is used to learn more about myself and Gods plan for my life, not just the taking of another animals life. I respect the woods and every creature within them, but it's also my job to pass that respect on to my children. I live for the outdoors, without that, I wouldn't know what else to do. I know there are alot of people that don't beleive in the same things I do, and I can accept that, just accept me for who I am. That's all I ask.

Just thought I'd get your attention! :) I too am a NC hunter. My first (hunting) love is Deer hunting, and my longest (hunting) love is squirrel hunting. The Lord has blessed my wife and I with a bit of property...not much, but enough. I keep a feeder (hope to place more) busy entertaining the deer.

I live just a mile or two from a major lake, and one of the prime feeder creeks borders our property...so we see our share of deer.

I hunt with a Marlin Guide Gun (45-70). How bout you?

Remington .308 for the deer. I'm hunting a couple of differant places here. One farm in Durham and a 1200 acre lease in Franklin County. Took my best buck yet this past season. Got a nice longbeard back in April with my 8 year old son sitting just behind me. That bird came into 10-12 yards in full strut. He loves it too.

I hunt with various guns for deer, close range I use a Marlin 35, long range I use a Rugar 270 and a Rugar 308. Time in the deer stand, helps me grow closer to my Lord. When the activity is slow (most of the time), I do a lot of praying.
Ruger man, huh? My squirrel rifle is a Ruger 10-22 with the Volquartsen fiber barrel and trigger group. I do love that rifle. I've been drooling over a 308 Compact Ruger. Nice rifles.

Can I just say how disgusted I am that any Christian who is serious in their relationship with God would do deer hunting! I'm sorry if that sounds harsh but I really do think that if you respect God's creation and respect nature you shouldn't be going out killing the creatures he made. In my mind that is murder. I would never dream of killing an innocent animal and I find it repulsive that any Christian could do such a thing!!!

we are serious about our relationship with God. In Genesis 1:27-28 God create man God gives us this blessing "Be furitful and increase, fill the earth and subdue it, have dominion over the fish in the sea, the birds of the air, and every living thing that moves on the earth" (The Revised English Bible)

Later we read in Genesis 2:21 "The Lord God made coverings from skins for the man and his wife and clothed them". Do you have no respect for God? For God had to kill in order to give the skins to Adam and Eve.

Even David hunted and it was said that David was a man after God's own heart.

Jesus when he part took of the passover dinner ate something that was killed. I know you will say that he did not kill the lamb. But still he ate of it making him part of the murder of that lamb. So now you have no respect for Jesus too??!!

Even in Acts 10:9-16 We find Peter having a vision about food. In we see foods of all types. Peter is told that all food was good none was unclean. The food that Peter saw was without doubt some was taken by hunting.

To murder someone is very different then to kill a deer. Murder involves taking a life of a man. Someone who is made in the very image of God. Man has a soul whereas an animal has no soul at all. To kill an animal is nothing, animals when left alone will reproduce and soon will over populate an area. Hunting let us control the population and control sickness over population of the animal. Have you every found a deer that was straving to death? Have you ever come across a car deer accident. Did you ever hold the the person whose car hit the deer parying that EMS would get there. Then to find out that person that you were comforting has past away.

Finally you state "I'm sorry if that sounds harsh but I really do think that if you respect God's creation and respect nature you shouldn't be going out killing the creatures he made. In my mind that's murder. I would never dream of killing an innocent animal and I find it repulsive that any Christian could do such a thing" I take it that you are judging me and the above hunters, Bible Guy. It is written that no man should judge another. Remember this "For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by man. (NIV, Romans 14:17-18. Perhaps a reading in Romans 14 might be good for you.

If there are not limited huntings, then the deer population will grow to a large number.

This means the following.

Deer / Car Accidents. ( These total cars, they cause deaths)
Various Disease amongst deer population will spread like a plaug. They can also help carry ticks which can be infected with Key Lime disease a fatal disease in humans.
Yes, certinly hunting may not be you're fortay. Its not mine, I prefer to go fishing myself.

However, when done in regulation and honorably. It is a good thing. You know, in my area when ever a deer hits a car or vice versa. When the deer meat is not claimed, it gose to the center of hope. Thats a homless shelter.

I hunt with my father in law and brother in law. We have a huntin' club and go every year. Sometime even my wife will tag along. We use the meat to get us through the winter. A little Dale's seasoning and you can't taste the gamey flavor.

If anyone is interested in a outdoors/hunting place, I have started a forum just for that purpose. It's a place I started for hunters and outdoorsmen to come together and tell their hunting and fishing stories. We also have a forum for Hiking, but haven't had many postings their yet. If you are interested, just send me a PM and I will reply back to you with the link.

Bible Guy -

The other guys here have answered, and I'll let their answers be the "why or why not" part.

Perhaps my answer will seem even more inappropriate to you. Anyone who eats meat eats an animal that has been slaughtered. If you have ever been in a slaughter house where cattle, pigs, chickens, turkeys, etc. are slaughtered, you know that most of those animals spend their lives living in filth, enduring miserable conditions, and then end up with a violent death...often fairly inhumane. Yet, we sink our teeth into steak or hamburger without thought of it being evil.

Yes, I love to hunt. I hunt for two reasons...I love to hunt, and I love the meat. I do not hunt for tropies. I do not slaughter untold numbers of deer or squirrels (my two hunting passions), and those I kill live a quality life in the wild (I even feed them in the off seasons) and die a quick humane death...far better treatment than the cattle most of us eat can expect.

Frankly, I have to say that I feel closer to God while in the woods than anywhere else. It really doesnt' matter whether I see a deer or squirrel...my day is made when I can sit with my back against a big old oak tree, and watch the day be born and come to life. I have many times sat and watched dozens of squirrels scamper unmolested about my position, just for the joy of watching them.

I realize that my words will not make me less of a murderer in your eyes, but I couldn't move ahead without responding. God bless you! Perhaps some day, we can sit down together in Heaven and have a grand discussion on this matter.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the compliments and support. It's really the members that make the forums worth checking every day. I enjoy sharing the stories and pictures. I hope anyone that enjoys the outdoors for hunting, fishing, or hiking, will find the forums a great place to hang out and talk about it.
