:help: I am seeking a deeper prayer life with God. He told me that I should get closer to Him in prayer this year through intercession and just pouring my heart out to Him and talking to Him like I would anyone else.

Can anyone offer me any encouragement as to how to follow through with this? Does anyone have any tips for drawing near to God in prayer? I never seem to be able to focus, so I resort to a prayer journal. If you think you can help, please write. I'd appreciate it very much!

Love,
Jesse :pink:

I kept a prayer journal at one time myself. I think it is good that u continue to do so. But remember, God doesn't respond to formality. He responds to a thankfull and loving heart. He wants us to feel free to talk with Him. Sharing the things we dare not even speak in the dark. Open up to God. I share my deepest fears and hopes with Him. Things I couldn't share with my own family. Some times the things are wrong but God works in us. I have spoken of the darkest sins in my life openly with Him. He never beat me over the head, but He sent His spirit to clean me when I would ask.

Anyway, I would like to invite you to the sweet hour of prayer thread on this forum. A link to it is in my sig. Pray with us and tell us what is happening please. I have found having someone to be accountable to has helped me. Me and iktca are already deep into it, but would love for another to join in. You don't have to comite to the hour. Just comit to prayer. I love reading the posts about each others prayer time. It helps me, and believe it helps others.

Each time you read the Scriptures, take a few moments to pray that the Spirit will guide you in each and every word you read. That way your fleshy mind will not rob you of the Truth. ~Peace~

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight." (Proverbs 3: 5-6)

Is there anything to plug into at church ?
Like Paul and John-mark , some times we need a barnabus , a mentor to show us
the ropes , to learn by doing , to learn because of compassion for those we minister to , to learn to continue to be receive thanks ...
1. outreaches at church - nurshing home , prison , hospital
2. bible study groups
3. prayer groups
4. adult / layman classes

Thank you so much for the encouragement, you guys!

I have been taking time, plunking down and listening to the BIG DADDY, and He's talking to me! It rocks. I was feeling like a total screw-up last night, and I was really getting down on myself. He said, "You are not a failure." Wow! I am not a failure. I don't see why not, but He said so, so it's true. Praise God, He cares for me! And, He's letting me back on Spiritual offense rather than defense. This is when life gets truly exciting, because my ministry is opening up again. Praise God!

Thank you.

Love,
Jessie

It is pleasing that you are in touch with the Lord and if you are now being urged to a deeper prayer life it means you are already praying and you are on the right path already. May the Lord bless you and lead you on.

You will need to continue on this path albeit giving more of what you already are doing. I would suggest that you also increase the bible reading so that you live in the Word. When you live in His Word, then you can hear Him and you will be able to pray according to His Word more.

Thanks for sharing. God Bless you.

I don't know if this will help you but it helped me into a deeper prayer life. It has been to learn some of the Pslams by memory. Then meditate on them in part of your prayer time as to how they relate to you and how you live your life for Jesus. Try Psalm 1 or Psalm 139 to get you started it is reasonably long but lots of it may be familiar to you through songs or often quoted sections.

Hi Jesse

No he did not speak to me audibly. But Since it there was no confusion I don't mind. I think we all want something audibly but I think that if we are really close to God he can speak to us only by small guidings of the spirit.
Like say your in a shopping mall and He wants you to tell somebody something He's not gonna boom it out over the intercomm system or from the roof :)

Anyways what happed was this:
I asked him why I wasn't healed yet. (I am still sick, but that's not the point)
And he asked me "Do you love me?" exactly as he asked Peter.
Well not audibly but why should I care, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind it was Him!! Halleluja. I guess that sort of pulled me throught the holliday when I couldn't go to church and cell and so on.
But this was the first time God spoke to me in this way. (He did previously in other ways) but this was about as direct as I ever got it. So I couldn't reply :( I was shokked and about completely confused. So I even asked for a sign to confirm it was Him, just to make sure. And guess what, I got my sign!! great stuff hey.

It's times like these that you just know He is with you!
