"It's mostly Catholics that live around here. Speaking bluntly, of all the world religions (including Judaism and Islam) Catholicism is my LEAST favorite religion.
The reason is because I feel that they use their media and fame to put glory onto individuals and take glory away from God
Think about it: how often do we actually hear the Catholic church talk about God or Jesus? Never. It's almost always news about this pope or that cardinal. It takes the glory that should be going to Jesus Christ and it puts it into the hands of individuals.
I don't believe that people should be idolized. Because to me that's a form of idol worship, and .... I'm not sure if that's one of the ten commandments, but I do know that's a BIG NO NO to God.
Every single person who talks about the pope, all that whispered gossip, all the time spent like he's a celebrity--that's all time that should be given to God. So I strongly disagree with Catholics and their religion.
Not sure if I'm expressing this clearly, but what I mean is this: the goal of the church, first and foremost, is to act as a way to help connect with Jesus and God and to worship them, yes? But the catholic church doesn't do that as much as they should. They have the influence and power to reach millions of people, but they use that power to elevate themselves to celebrity status and keep secrets and do all these things that make you forget that, behind it all, they're supposed to be worshiping Jesus and not themselves.
As Lutherans we are critical of the Roman Catholic church because they are wrong on several very important points.
No one ever seems to agree with me when I bring it up, but I find the Catholic church to be very obvious in what it does wrong.
If the true point of Christianity is in the name (Christ) then why is it that the Catholic church focuses so much on its own famous members? They get so much media attention that makes them basically celebrities, and they use none of it to spread Jesus's words. It seems as if the most significant thing they promote is themselves.
I know that sounds a bit harsh, but it's just my observation. this whole thing with the pope retiring and the new pope being elected; how many times, through all this media coverage, was Jesus's name mentioned? I don't think I heard it mentioned once. All of this was directed towards making their religion seem like a reality TV shows, entertaining and not at all about Jesus and his love for the world.
So, I just don't understand the religion, really. At the end of the day (and this is just my opinion) I think their #1 job/goal is to spread the word of Christ. And I think that should come before everything else. But they are involved in so many scandals/secrets/controversies that most people think of the whole thing as a source of entertainment and it's easy to forget that it's supposed to be all about Jesus.
This is one of the reasons why I've taken such a huge interest in Lutheranism. I will state for the record that what attracts me most about Christianity is Christ. I'm not too happy about the OT (which is why I gave up on my Jewish faith very young), but I feel that, with Jesus, I could learn to appreciate it.
Lutherans seem to put the focus on Jesus more than any other sect of Christianity. I like the sheer amount of importance he plays as the central figure in the religion.
I can't think of any other sect or denomination that puts as much emphasis on Jesus as the Lutherans do.
The OT is always going to be a sore spot with me, I think. Because while I (thanks to your words) have come to accept that it is beyond my level of understanding to judge God's actions, they still make me very uncomfortable and sad.
I just really don't like all the killing in the OT."
Food for thought. We must be doing things wrong either that or the person who wrote this never heard an Angelus on Sunday...
