  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have been a Christian most of my life and was grown in the fellowship deeply. My mom committed me when I was younger, though I wasn't living a full Christian life until twelve. I liked church it was knowledgeable and sincere, though as I became older my knowledge of Christianity began to be tested by more difficult facts and ideas. Yes, I stuck to the fundamentals and tried my best to utilize virtues as pray and it worked like most teachers say, "the fundamentals are the basis for all understanding". However, I need something deeper the churches I followed, Christ Church, and Frederick KC Price ministries, were creative and insightful, but I had to say, "I needed to learn more." So I read and understood though it still wasn't the answer. I always asked a question, "What is my purpose in Christianity? I immediately came to the conclusion that I need to reassess my understanding of this. I bought a book called, "Christianity for Dummies", and it is great. So, I advise others when there stuck at a road in Christianity to revaluate themselves by questioning and returning back to the overall message.

Lord God we pray to you right now giving thanks for you virtuous understanding. That I may use that as a basis for any question or mistaken purposes I have in any place in my life. Lord God open our hearts to your righteousness that I may understand and grow in it. We thank you God and pray this all in your sons name Amen.

Do you believe that one is NOT saved by church attendance, familial orientation with Christianity, a deep knowledge and/or understanding of Christian aspects, ideologies, and beliefs but RATHER through a personal recognition and acceptance of their unworthiness in God's presence and their personal need for the redemption exclusively offered through Jesus; that one cannot become a Christian by a "rearing" in the faith but rather only through their own conviction in God's light and their individual choosing to believe in the redemption we may have through Jesus, the Christ/Messiah?

I ask this because of the emphasis which you place upon your Christian rearing and all of the inferences to knowledge and understanding. Faith is a SUPER-NATURAL process. All of the understanding and knowledge in the world do not a Christian necessarily make. Our souls are the fundamental essence of our faith.

We are saved by the grace of God (undeserved/unmerited favor) through FAITH, not understanding. "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephes 2:8-10 NIV

We are saved by grace, through faith, so that we can truly do good works for HIS glory and honor, not ours.

The deep aspect of christianity, is Christ. How much we have supped with Him, and Him in us. How much we've become one with Him and He in us, how much we have yielded and surrendered and walked with Him, and enjoyed communed and fellowshipped with Him and in Him in spirit.

The next deepest aspect, is how much of that love relationship overflows and transforms us and spills to those around us.

The rest is just religious diversion and doctrinal mental floss.

What is my purpose in Christianity?

Westminster confession of faith.
What is the chief end of man?
The chief end ( purpose ) of man is to glorify God and to enjoy him for ever.

May I suggest learning theology and apologetics.
Suggested sites coldcasechristianity, answersingenesis/creation.com ( yes yec, but they stand on the authority, reliability etc of the Bible ) wintery knight, tough questions answered and reasonablecfaith.

Parting thought. There is nothing wrong with having doubts or questions. Christianity is not just about having faith but also about being able to give a reason for what and why one believes.
So it is wrong not to find answers to any doubts or questions that one might have.

Unless one is a genius other far cleverer people will have had those same problems and answers them.

Hi it is great that you found something that clarifies the message of salvation. I too was bought up in a Christan home, but never really understood things until later too. Even in my early Christain years, I had a lot of misunderstandings, it can take a while to get on the right track. Even now I am sure there are things that I could improve. But God does not judge us as the bible says, if we think differently God will make it clear to us:

Php 3:15 All of us who are mature should think in this same way. And if any of you think differently, God will make it clear to you.
