  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have some decisions to make and am struggling with scriptures. I can't quote them verbatim, but the ones that are giving me trouble are 1) lean not on your own understanding. 2) the heart is deceitful 3) the wisdom of the world is foolish. It makes it seem like the bible is saying you shouldn't make decisions for yourself and I can't trust myself with something that I need to get straightened out. That brings another question: does God micromanage?

No, God doesn't micromanage, He delegates, and expects us to decide things for ourselves:

1 Corinthians 6:3: Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!

The verse from Jeremiah ("The heart is deceitful above all things") can be used as a warning: if you really, really want something badly, you maybe shouldn't trust your own arguments as to why it's a good idea (instead, take advice from a friend or pastor who may see the situation more clearly).

The verse from Proverbs 3 I think you've taken out of context: it's about following God's law.

And when Paul writes "the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God," he means the non-Christian world.

What the Bible is telling you is not to trust in your own wisdom exclusively. God has provided us with much wisdom in the Bible, and He has also invited us to ask for wisdom, and we will receive it. God does not micromanage but He will provide you with wisdom to make the right decisions. There is a difference between knowledge and wisdom. The wisdom of the world excludes God, but godly wisdom goes to God for help and for answers.
