  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is there something wrong with considering that the Immaculate Conception took place by the Holy Spirit on December 25th, and not the actual birth canal birth of Jesus?

The course of Obia specifically states that John was 6 months in the womb and jumped due to the spirit of Jesus in Mary’s womb.

We know there was more than a tax reason for Christ Mass.

I would suggest that this trumps all other births of other gods and idols.

I would suggest that there is a good reason why Christ Mass is the 25th and not just the winter solace 21rst.

Anyone?

Most people don't make a big deal out of it. I don't care if he was born in July, I'm just glad he was..

Amen.

My wife and I had this talk recently and wondered why anyone really cares if it is the real date or an observed date. The point is to celebrate the birth of our savior. Nothing more.

Same here I couldn't careless if it's an actual date or the observed date it's funny how people get caught up insignificant details and lose sight of the actual message. It's like this preacher that I heard part of his sermon on my drive home this guy rambled on about how there was no menention of 3 wise men in the Bible only that 3 gifts and that number wise men/magi wasn't menirioned I don't know how long the guy went on about switch another radio about 5 minutes of his ranting about this.

I'm afraid that silly nitpicking helps run folks off. Sad, isn't it?

That is unfortunate. He missed the point if that became his focus. Yes, he's right, we don't know for sure if it was three, and that number has been popularized by songs, media, etc. BUT three was not chosen randomly. The most detailed research suggests that it probably was three. So that is why the number is used. I can see a preacher giving a small correction for the sake of accuracy. But it's just not worthy of an entire sermon (or even a large part of one).

And regarding the OP, I'm with the others here in that I don't think there is anything particularly holy about the 25th. It's a day chosen for the celebration. We don't know the actual day.

I thought Immaculate Conception was the term Catholics to describe Mary's conception, not Christ's... Maybe I'm wrong?

It's not just about Jesus' conception. When a Catholic talks about the "immaculate conception", they're talking about the overall sinlessness of Mary. They believe that Mary lived her entire life and never sinned but, of course, the Bible is very clear that Jesus is the only person who never sinned.

I would mostly agree with the sentiment and basic mindset and true spirit filled honesty of all the responses.

However, I would also like to suggest that there really isn’t a common ground meeting of the minds about this subject.

Also, we have the Festival of "Michael and All Angels" which was held on September 29th.

Does anyone here know about this?

what the heck is up with them anyway? i remember being an unbeliever and loving Christmas and the story of Jesus birth, didn't have a problem with it at all, none whatsoever.....

we were just discussing this on another site and someone said it's because Christ's Name is in it, CHRISTmas, and they can't stand that....

the term immaculate conception is used by Catholics to refer to Mary.. but it could reasonably be applied to Jesus as well.

There is reason to attach significance to the date dec. 25th. One reason is that the astronomical phenomenon which was most likely "the star" of bethlehem would have culminated over bethlehem on dec. 25th. This could be when Jesus was born, or it could be when the wisemen arrived, or it could be both.
