The original quotation as posted is from an unknown Canadian philosopher. Zacharias has referred to it in his writings or lectures.
Over the years, when I presented it, the majority of agnostics/atheists who read or heard it became hostile and defensive. The majority of Christians recognized it for what it is.
Because it fits the Christian narrative of moral decline and various flavors of eschatology while it does not line up with the facts on the ground (falling crime/abortion rates/etc). It also ignores that the same thing has been said for thousands of years, unless it's all been a straight down hill slide from Athens something's not adding up.

I don't think one needs to be a Christian to recognize moral decline in a certain area or some.

What I do think, society (perhaps the whole world on average) is becoming a lot more progressive and liberal especially socially. Not all of that is really bad, but even I think it's becoming excess.
