Dec 21st 2012: Why is this date important?

Hi guys

Honest question. Why are so many people obcessing over this date and using it in their arguments when it doesn't seem to have a scriptural basis and is provably linked to the Mayan calendar (and by extension, the last episode of the X files)?

Can anyone enlighten me to this, or is it a case of just shoehorning a popular date into flawed theology?

I guess you will just have to wait and see. Or you could enter the date into google and discover some interesting things about it.

So? Why are we supposed to believe that this particular bunch of neolithic heathens had some secret means of knowing when our Lord would return, or the world would end, or whatever? Baloney.

hey, i don't buy it either....but much of the world will.
better stock up on supplies before then...

It is simply not important at all to any serious student of the Bible.

May be you are right, but doesn’t God send them delusion to believe a lie?

If catastrophic events began to happen in 2012, then wouldn’t that convince many to believe the lie?
