I'm looking to start a debate about the purpose of debating. Should debating be done for recreation, to strengthen our own convictions, to change others' ways of thinking, or to explore those other ways of thinking? Is any reason for debate wrong? Do any of you, like me, actually have fun debating? What about debating from a Christian perspective?
Personally, I debate because it's fun and because it strengthens me in my convictions. If my posts cause other people to reconsider their stand on things, then that's a plus. But it's not absolutely necessary for me to have a good time.
What drives you to come here and fight the good fight?
