  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
Hey. I truly hope there isnt already a topic on this. I looked around for one but there was over a thousand topics and i didnt want to look through them all.

Well whenever I am alone i think about death and it scares me. I know you shouldnt always think about it. But i think it can happen anyday we never know. it can be tomorrow or a few years or maybe in a long time. I wonder whether it will be painfull or if i will die in my sleep. Or what if i die in a car accident and never get a chance to say goodbye to my family and friends or what if it happens to them and I dont get to tell them how much they mean to me. The truth is nobody really knows for a fact what happens after we die and i am afraid. Though i do not worry much about it anymore because there is no stopping it. I used to think that i was going to hell because i thought bad things about God. But how can he let so many people go to such a horrible place? Well tell me what you guys think? I guess I just want your thoughts on this - like how to stop being afraid of this, and also what you think happens when you die.

Tell them tomorrow.

You'll be amazed at how great you'll feel.

Hey luckie, sorry you feel that way about death. I know how it is. I think our fear of death is the way God wired us to help our survival. Personally, I am looking forward to death. Sometimes this life makes me so depressed, the thought of heaven makes me want death. Death sounds like the final ringing sentencing the end, but it is only the end of chapter 1, and our full life begins just on the other side. We need to live this life to the fullest, though, because it sets the stage for our next life.

I understand what you're saying about hell also, and I can empathize, but I think I understand some of the reasons for hell, and why it is necessary. First of all, many people, even after finding God, might want to refuse living with Him because of pride or something else. In any case, would it be right for a loving God (who respects our right to choose Him or us) to force someone into heaven against their will? I don't think so. Second, the essence of hell seems to be where God is not (I doubt it is demons whipping us, and I don't think there are real flames in hell). We were made with holes in our souls that can only be filled by God. To refuse His gift of fulfilling us would be eternal torment, but God can't refuse our choices since He gave us free will.

I used to think that i was going to hell because i thought bad things about God.

Do you think God sends people to hell based on good or evil works? Here's how I see it: All good people go to heaven, but there was only one good person, Christ. We dam ourselves by our refusal to accept God's grace. The one who steals from the cookie jar cannot be in God's presence just as the murderer can't. It is not just God's arbitrary rule, but a sort of logical rule, because of God's purity we can't be with Him unless we are pure. We need to accept Christ, then let Him take all impurity from us.

I'm sorry you are scared of death, but I can assure you, the best is yet to come, if only you'll accept it.

To come face to face with our own mortality is a scary thing... every one faces that sooner or later.

The question isn't so much what we think about death, but what do you think? If death is only the beginning, you may be a little scared of whatever pain we face going through it, but can rejoice to know that we will be together with God in a place far greater than we can imagine!!!
If, on the other hand, you believe that this is all there is and ever will be, now that IS terrifying!!!

There are millions of people who will try to convince you of one side or the other, but in the end the peace you find in this life and what you look forward to in eternity depends not on the thoughts and reasoning of others... but in your own heart and soul/mind.

All I can tell you is that you must find an answer to the question your asking. PLEASE consider reading the Bible to find the answers... that is where I found the answers and the peace, in the person of Jesus Christ.

As for your confusion on how a loving God could send people to hell, try looking at it from the perspective of someone who trully hates God and wants nothing to do with Him... A loving God can no more force some one to spend eternity with Him than He could send some one that loves Him to hell for all eternity. So the ultimate questions are:

1. Who is God?

and

2. Do I love Him?

Again, I found the answers in the Bible. I would suggest you read the gospel of John. I hope you find the peace you are looking for.

Actually, Late Cretaceous, I do suffer from depression. I take wellbutrin for it. I think it is definitely possible to rationally want to die, though. Christians who want to be with God can sometimes understand how much greater heaven is, and they would naturally prefer to be there. This is selfish, though (which is part of my problem), and God did not intend for us to want to die.

Thanks for your concern.

The Bible says don't worry about the future just worry about now because only God has insight into the future and you only live in the now.

Luckiecharms, you are a young person and I assume you are healthy too. I am sure your family love you to bits. Just go on living and just take precautions in your health like not smoking and keeping away from drugs and other damaging factors to your health as heavy alcohol drinking. Then at least you are giving yourself a good chance.
And don't think you will be going to hell, some christians debate on whether there is even a hell as traditionally depicted. Some say it is only for Satan and his demons for the rest of unsaved mankind are destoyed from existance not burning eternally in hell. God is merciful and he is towards you too. You feel guilt about how you thought about God which is good as it shows you have remorse and repentence inside you and God knows your heart and how afraid you feel and he wants to comfort you and he loves you. Trust in him and and you will feel inner peace with yourself. You have a life now so make the most of it and enjoy your life that God gave you. Death will come to each of us but it is how you live now - Today that is important. I am sure at your young age you have a good chance of many years at least statiscally speaking so relax and think about what you wish to achieve in life and enjoy it fully.
