  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Expecting perfection on earth is a denial of the Biblical testimony.

Dog-lover here also.
Which is why I oppose the death penalty. You cannot bring them back.

My view is... I don't agree with the death penalty under any circumstances. It's barbaric whatever any book tells you... If you don't have to kill somebody, then don't.

However, I'm here to hear Christian voices and therefore guage your collective moral compass.
You're not doing well... I'm just finding more reasons to reject Christianity.

... then to be reasonable in all of this, you'll also need to study and criticize the ontology of today's Human Rights assumptions ...

If you refuse to do so, then you basically have little or no good grounds for saying that today's Human Rights thinking has more "ethical truth" than does the ethics of the Bible.

For some reason or other, I keep seeing this epistemic mistake being made my countless numbers of people these days. I can't figure what's got into all of them. :sorry:

Jesus isn't speaking in Lk 3, John the Baptist is.
The Bible does not say a lot directly to soldiers. Paul does talk about the commitment, discipline, and dedication required of a soldier. They began their training at the age of 3.

We see this with terrorism today. They begin their training in grade school. I personally think the whole war concept is wrong. So for me I have no right to be a soldier. As I do not want to encourage war mongols. Although I would have been a medic so I would not have been called to kill. But I would have picked up the arms and legs and put them in a body bag. I did not want to get involved to that degree.

God does at the resurrection.
Oh! That is rich.

However, for the criminal under the death penalty....there is nothing like an real definite appointment with the hereafter, to begin thinking about the hereafter...maybe for the first time in their lives.

We are under grace in spiritual matters.

We are under law in natural/earthly matters.

That's interesting. Can that be so? I can't agree with you. The Lord has shown me grace in earthly matters before. More than once.

One time I was on my last pot of coffee and I didn't have any money to go buy more, it was my (self-emploted) slow season. I thought about praying for some work/help becasue I needed it. But before I prayed the scripture came to my mind about Think not about tomorrow, and He knows our needs before we ask. SO I decided not to pray and ask for work and just believe what the scripture says. Within 30 minutes I had a friend knocking on my door and when I amswered it, he hands me a 2 LB bag of gourmet coffee beans! And I thought, wow. I did't prsy and ask for it. Then it hit me what happened and why God had coffee delivered to me. I was taking a step in faith when I did not pray, so because of my faith He sent me some coffee! True story.
Do you think that sounds like grace? I thought about it and had the thought it could even be favor?

Another time, I was $2000 behind in rent, and had a $300 utility shut off notice for Monday and today was Saturday. My rent was a grand oer month and being self employed sometimes I was a hundred hundred fifty short. I would make it up to him when work came in and everything was cool, until the economy kept sliding and it added to to 2 grand. I was doing a garage sale to maybe help but, it didn't help catch up rent, just fed me some. So on Saturday I was in the garage with the door open and waiting for customers. My landlord pulled up and he sais I'm sorry Ed but $2K is quite a bit of money and I have bills...and he handed me a 3 day notice. He left and then I immediately became concerned and so prayed and asked for help. It was coming on dark so I went ahead and closed it up and went in the house. As soon as I sat down the phone rang. A guy said he was tied up right now but can he come in 1 1/2 hours to see my garage sale. I had built a couple 4X8 plywood tables and set everythig up in the garage so I said yes.

He showed up right when he said he would and I took him into the garage and as soon as he walked in he looked at me and said, how much do you need? I had no clue what he meant so I went into saleman mode and began showing him my wares, lol. Then he asked me again, how much do you need? I went (tilt). What? I picked some stuff up and told him about it and he would glance at it and set it back on the table and then ask me, how much do you need? I was in twilight zone. I had no answer for him and he didn't sound much like a garag saler. So I look at him like I'm stupid or something (lol) and then he says, well, how about $1900 for everything on that one table? Now I thought this is obviously a joke so I didn't say anything back to him.

Then he says, well how about $2400 then? Nw I was positive that he was joking. Garage salers do not talk the price up, they talk it down, so had to be a joke, right? I wanted to hear the punch line! So I said, that'll be fine. And the punch line was...he whipped out a wad hundreds to choke a horse and counted me out 24 of them and handed them to me and smiled! This stuff he was buying was household knick knacks. I was married for 26 years and when she left she didn't take hardly anything (except the gold & the jade, Lol!) So I had no use for that stuff. But it wasn't worth that much money. Not even close.

I helped him box the stuff up and he starts setting stuff back on the table after taking it back out of the box and says, I wont really need this, I wont need that either. He took a lot of stuff and left it on the table, weird. So we shook hands and said goodbye and he drove away. I went iinto the house and started down the steps to go into the family room and I put my hand in my pocket and felt that wad of cash and instantly remembered I had just prayed for help and got it all. That was an Angel. He looked like a man. I caught up all my back rent, paid the utility shutoff notice, and $100 extra for groceries! (Our God is soo good!)

Now that has to be grace. Maybe even favor. But it was in earthly matters! True story.

By earthly matters, I am referring to earthly law.
