Death penalty - right or wrong

Death penalty - right or wrong

  • All murderers should be punished with their lives.

  • Only the worst, such as serial killers and multiple rapists should die

  • Killing a killer is still wrong - life imprisonment is enough.

  • Other - please discuss.

But do Christians really get their morality from the Bible, or from some other basis?

There are many cases in which a Christian will reject parts of the Bible, even the New Testament (Paul endorsing slavery, Paul endorsing discrimination against women, Jesus' teachings on divorce, teachings on sexuality...the list goes on).

But I suppose that's an entirely different debate.

For christians to get their morality from the bible, they must have either read a different book or only know what has been cherry-picked for them every Sunday morning.

Which is probably a good thing, because I would hate to meet a proper literalist christian - they must be worse than the stereotypical muslim fundies.

Oh yeah, silly me - there are literalist christian fundies and they attend this church. And they really live by the bible.

But yes, that is a different debate.

Thow shalt not kill(OldT) He who is with out sin, cast the first stone.(New T) Leave the killing to God. Even if we kill every evil man who deserves it, you are only doing what they do, killing!
Christ died so that we dont have to, he will come again to avenge for evey person who has had a loved one killed by an evil one.

That's true. A Christian who does that does not actually get his morality from the Bible, but from whatever criterion he uses to decide which parts of the Bible to reject. Usually it's some kind of humanism mistaken for Biblical humanity.
