  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How do you deal with temptation whether that be being tempted to eat a piece of chocolate even though you are on a diet through to being tempted to commit a crime such a theft. What ever your temptation how do you resist or do you eventually give in?

If I want something, and by my having it, it won't hurt anybody else, then I take it. If what I want is going to hurt me or hurt somebody else, then I reason with myself, and go from there. Sometimes temptation wins, but I don't regret my choices. They made me who I am.

As far as like temptation to eat foods that you are trying to stay away from. That is a personal decision and asking God would help you achieve your goals. However I do not even have the temptation to steal or commit some crime such as that. But if you did praying to God at the moment the temptation arises could wash the temptation away.

When it comes to something like theft, I'm not even tempted. I think I'd have to be starving before temptation would even exist.

When it comes to watching what I eat, I may very well give in to the occasional temptation.

What's the difference? In the case of theft, there is a clear standard that involves other people, and therefore has a "fixed" quality. I cannot decide for others what I may do with their property.

However, with personal matters, such as what I eat, I set my standards for myself, and if I cheat... I can make up for it later, if I wish. I am not shifting the responsibility for my actions onto anyone else.

It's easier to resist when one leaves the situation/environment that has the temptation.

If my eyes are on the awesome will of God for me I don't even give air time to it. If I'm lusting after something I've let go of what God wants.

I deal with it by learning, if I give in I don't get what I really want and need, if I call on God to *do* his thing, I find a better Life.
