  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

One thing we need to become aware of is how we objectify people...

When a certain part of them (like their atheism, or their christianity) becomes the only thing about them that matters to us we begin to become susceptible to badly misunderstanding them because it causes us to begin to feel or conclude that everything we see or know about them... comes from that certain part of them.

This is why we begin to mistake all of life's problems with the thing in them that we disapprove of... because that thing is the only part of them that we care about or see or really regard.

Immaturity becomes atheism
Selfishness becomes atheism
Pride becomes atheism
Hate becomes atheism
Ignorance becomes atheism

we see all those things but because we are so obsessed with their atheism and only their atheism we begin to consider that those things have to be inherent parts of their atheism, and it also causes us to see them as "atheists" not humans, not friends.

It's no longer Mary, or Charley, or Silvia it's "that atheist" it's no longer a brilliant and wonderful human being, it's an "atheist" it's no longer a person with a voice of their own, a purpose in God, a life, a person full of life experiences and knowledge, it's "that atheist"

It destroys the gospel of Christ, because God came to save his own people, people that he loved and understood and cherished and related to... not objects, we cannot help them if we simplify them so much. They are not so dull or dim-witted that they do not see such blundering selfishness in our cause when we treat them this way. It will not work.

One of my favorite arguments against atheism is the fact that evolution does not explain their behavior. Every time an atheist comes on a discussion forum to try to prove there's no God, he's exercising part of himself that evolution does not explain, that wouldn't come just from natural selection. Atheists have a need for a cause greater than themselves and to seek ultimate truth, that's what motivates them to argue about it, and that need is something atheism does not explain but theism does.

Yup, animals don't have morals, they operate mainly on instinct. So if we "evolved" from animals, where did our moral fiber come from? When did that start? It makes no sense to me.

I'm pretty new in my faith. I was saved about 3 months ago. I finally accepted Jesus as my lord and savior. One thing now that bothers me as a born again Christian that didn't used to bother as a lost sinner are smug "know it all" atheists. Does any one else become a bit enraged when Atheists constantly mock the bible and our God? Atheism Ideology to me is very depressing and illogical. I don't understand how anyone could be Atheist and live a happy life. Is it not enough that they have depressing miserable lives? Why do they wish to drag others into their nonsense ideology? I guess I'm just venting. Any thoughts on Atheists? What do you say to Atheists when they try to argue with you? I feel I've been doing alright in fighting against them with the gospel. But more advice is greatly appreciated.

I'll give two examples of atheists I was talking with earlier.

Atheist No. 1:

"I love it when people claim atheists KNOW there isn't a higher power...what I KNOW is that there exists vast amounts of evidence that discredits creationism, and absolutely none whatsoever to confirm it, nor any of the ridiculous claims any religion ever has made, or ever will. What I KNOW is that when, as an adult who is fully capable of the most basic reasoning, one still chooses to believe in such ridiculous myths through nothing else than blind faith, one cannot be considered entirely sane."

Atheist No. 2:

"Christians and Atheists could probably learn a lot from each other. Of course there is no "man in the sky" looking down on us and of course the events in the bible didn't actually happen (at least the majority, who know's for sure?). The bible is metaphorical and allegorical and has many lessons we can learn.
The rest is up to you as a person. Think about everything. Contemplate all that is. Reflect on the state of our world. What's really going on behind the scenes?"

Another question I have is why do people feel the NEED to disprove God? Why do they get out of it? What could they possibly benefit from trying to disprove our creator?

One verse that stands out to me is Psalms 14:1 "The fool has sayeth in his hear there is no God"

Anyway, I'm rambling.

Your thoughts?

What you have to remember about those who want and need to be 'Atheists' are :

1. It is based solely on a personal philosophical appeal and not on scientific reasoning or logic. The closest it comes to science is the pseudo-science of unproven theories that are outlandish by nature...like a one celled pond protozoa burping forth from a sea of dead chemicals in the sky...unpurposed and completely by accident ... responsble for every living thing on earth including animals, plants, sea life, and incredibly complex human anatomy . When you consider things like blood hemoglobyn , the DNA molecule with real complex messages, the human brain, our non material personality traits of logic, reason, abstract thoughts, love, etc.. as coming from a common ancestor called a one celled pond scum protozoa...it is quite laughable -- sheer desperation to maintain a philosophical bias.

2. The mantra of ' I dont believe in God' is fallacious because when they were young children , they could see and examine the distinct design of things including their own body and know , intrinscially, that it didnt just happen for no reason and that non intelligence wasnt behind it. They asked their own parents the WHO, WHY, HOW, and WHAT FOR questions just like the rest of us did.

3. The mantra of 'I just dont see any evidence for a personal theistic creator' speaks volumes. They dont see the evidence because they arent looking, they dont want to look, all because it upsets their lifestyle choices and not wanting to be OWNED by anyone higher than Self.

4. The mantra of 'I dont SEE the creator' is a good one too ; ask them if theyve seen the Builder of their house, electricity running across the power lines outside their house, people living in China right this second, or their own Liver ....and if they answer 'No', then tell them none of these things exist then !

5. Probably the most nastiest of 'Atheists' come in the form of hostile , anti-christian personas . These are typically those groomed by the likes of the late atheist Christopher Hitchens (now a Creationist) and Richard Dawkins . These Gurus to the atheist community have done alot to rally great hostility toward Christians ; afterall, we are a threat to their MO. So, are reminders such as Christian churches with crosses on the top of the roof, crosses on Water Towers during Christmas and Easter, the Bible still being the best seller book for the last couple hundred years or more, and common Christians constantly offering them the Gospel of Christ to save them of their own sins .

We must be careful not to spend much time with any of them unless they show a real sincere open heart for the truth...which actually runs counter to atheist ideology . If they addressed themselves as Seeker/Skeptic then they may be more sincere . That said, we can still pray for all of them as God can break thru their tough veneer as he has with many once atheist Desirees ...myself included.
