A collection celebrating Christ's victory in us.
DEAD TO SIN
A Celebration
These are the seeds to my victory over habitual or besetting sin as I came to more fully understand Paul’s doctrine of grace, faith and salvation.
Make a Joyful Noise
© 1994 L K Stevenson
Make a joyful noise unto the Lord all you lands!
Serve the Lord with gladness,
Come before him with singing;
Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
Come into his courts with praise!
Make a joyful noise unto the Lord all you lands!
Note: While we sorrow over sin we rejoice because God is our victory.
Behold! How Good and How Pleasant
© 1994 L K Stevenson
Behold!
How good and how pleasant it is,
Behold!
How good and how pleasant it is
For brethren to dwell together,
Together in unity.
For brethren to dwell together,
Together in unity.
One God;
One faith;
One Lord.
One thought;
One hope;
One way.
We’ll practice koinonia
While we wait for maranatha,
Our Lord will come again!
Behold!
How good and how pleasant it is
For brethren to dwell together,
Together in unity.
Note: It is in communion that we often find victory through the prayers and support of others of the family of God. Let us strengthen and encourage one another.
How Shall We That Are Dead to Sin
© 1994 L K Stevenson
How shall we that are dead to sin
Live any longer therein?
Oh, how shall we that are dead to sin,
Live any longer therein?
For the law of the Spirit
Of life in Christ Jesus
Has made me free from the law of sin.
Yes, the law of the Spirit
Of life in Christ Jesus
Has made, has made me free.
Oh death, where is your sting?
Oh grave, where is your victory?
How shall we that are dead to sin
Live any longer therein?
Note: Victory comes by understanding and claiming the work of Christ through the cross. There is both imputation and empowerment through Jesus Christ. You are no longer bound to sin by the sin nature. Christ has destroyed it.
For This Purpose
© 1994 L K Stevenson
For this purpose
The son of God was manifest:
That he should destroy
The work of the evil one.
And every one who has this hope
Purifies himself in him;
For we know he was manifest
To take away our sin.
Note: Jesus came to set you free, he really did. Now you can do what you could not because Christ is in you, giving you the ability.
Let Not Sin
© 1994 L K Stevenson
Let not sin
Reign in your bodies
That you should obey
The lusts of it.
For the wages of sin is death,
But the gift of God is eternal life
Through Jesus Christ our Lord
Gift of God is eternal life,
The Gift of God is eternal life!
So,
Let not sin
Reign in your bodies
That you should obey
The lusts of it.
Note: So it all comes down to your confession and profession; what you say and do. Say, I no longer sin, and do what you say. As Paul encouraged, reckon yourself dead to sin and alive to God.
Grave Is Empty
© 1994 L K Stevenson
Grave is empty,
Stone is rolled away,
Christ is alive in my heart.
Death is conquered!
Vanquished! My foe.
Christ is alive in my heart.
Jesus is risen,
He reigns now as Lord,
Christ is alive in my heart.
His Spirit in me
Quickens me, I know,
Christ is alive in my heart.
Lord of life;
Prince of peace;
Father of all.
Grave is empty,
Stone is rolled away,
Christ is alive in my heart.
Death is conquered!
Vanquished! My foe.
Christ is alive in my heart.
Note: By Christ I am conquered and by him I conquer.
Create In Me A Clean Heart
© 1994 L K Stevenson
Create in me a clean heart, O, God;
And renew a right spirit within.
Cast me not away from your presence
And take not your Holy Spirit from me.
Purge me,
And I will be clean.
Wash me
Whiter than the snow
Restore to me the joy of your salvation
And uphold me with your free Spirit.
Note: Never forget your dependence on God. Only He gives you a heart to obey that can conquer sin and lust. It is through Jesus Christ and not human effort. Lean on him and receive his understanding.
Oh How Shall We That Are Dead
© 1994 L K Stevenson
Oh how shall we
That are dead to sin
Live any longer therein?
For sin shall not have dominion over you
For you are not under Law,
No, sin shall not have dominion over you
For you are under grace.
You are not under Law,
But you are under grace,
So how shall we
That are dead to sin
Live any longer therein?
Note: Just a reminder, live what you believe. Jesus is your victory.
Search Me, Oh God
© 1994 L K Stevenson
Search me, Oh God,
And know my heart.
Try me,
And know my thoughts.
See if there be
Any wicked way in me;
And lead me
In the eternal way.
Note: There is a need for a continual soft heart. Let God examine you as you examine yourself.
Being Justified By Faith

Being
Justified by faith
We have peace with God
Through our Lord Jesus Christ
God,
Proving his love for us:
That while we were sinners
Christ died for us;
And we joy in God
Through him
By whom we have received
Atonement.
Note: Never forget who is the author and finisher of our faith, even Jesus Christ our Lord. He began this work in you and he does not fail, he will complete it as you endure with patience.
More than 20 years on and the celebration continues…
The Same Holy Spirit
© 2019 L K Stevenson
I yield my members to the Holy Ghost
That Christ may be seen in me;
I do not walk in the lusts of the flesh,
For Jesus is living in me.
And the same Holy Spirit
Who raised Christ from the dead
Quickens my body to obey;
Yes, the same Holy Spirit
Who raised Christ from the dead
Is vict’ry in me o’er sin.
I yield my mind to the Holy Ghost
And he gives me life and peace.
I rule my body through the strength of the cross,
And his Spirit who’s living in me.
Through Christ in me the body is dead,
And cannot cause me to sin.
And by the Spirit he’s my righteousness
Giving everlasting life.
Note: Never think that the victory is your own doing. Never become self-sufficient. Always, always, always yield to the Holy Spirit both in thought and in action. Its the only way to live victoriously.
I Renew My Mind
© 2019 L K Stevenson
I renew my mind
And reckon myself dead to sin.
By his grace I find
Vict’ry comes from within.
When temptation comes
I resist it;
Tell it I’m dead,
No longer do this.
Abiding in Christ
I renew my mind.
Note: Rejoice! Jesus overcomes and the way of the cross leads home. Remember, they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and the words they testified. Continually remind yourself that you are dead to sin and no longer do it.
