Hi
I have no idea if this question has ever been posted;
But its got me wondering...................
Now as we all know, Genesis 1, v5 and God called the light day,and the darkness he called night; and the evening and the morning were the first day;
And so on throughout the creation story;
So Far, So Good; So at what Point did the first day
become called Sunday, Perhaps the first day was a tuesday ?
as the Lord did not say;This is the 1st day, ill call it Sunday; and bearing in mind the Calender has been changed over the centuarys; how can we know for
SURE, we are using the Correct days ?

Your Thoughts Welcome !

Paul

Well for Example, as we dont know what day the 1st day was, how do we know Saturday is the 7th day ?

Paul
the bible doesn't address the names the days... it says.... 6 days work, rest on the 7th.... so when does most of the world start their week?

We don't know that throughout history that the first day is the first day in every calendar. There were many calendars and most scholars feel that the 7 day week came from the Assyrian Calendar (this is off the top of my head, I would have to look up so old material I wrote to give sources) The Romans had a market day calandar which did not have weeks. The Chinese for over 3000 years have had a 10 day calendar. So calendars change. The Jews used a Lunar calendar which added days at the end of the year to make it work out with the seasons better. The Jews also did not name their days so the name Sunday came into being with the Julian Calendar

NOTE: The seven-day week originated in ancient Mesopotamia and became part of the Roman calendar in A.D. 321. The names of the days are based on the seven celestial bodies (the Sun, the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn), believed at that time to revolve around Earth and influence its events. Most of Western Europe adopted the Roman nomenclature. The Germanic languages substituted Germanic equivalents for the names of four of the Roman gods: Tiw, the god of war, replaced Mars; Woden, the god of wisdom, replaced Mercury; Thor, the god of thunder, replaced Jupiter; and Frigg, the goddess of love, replaced Venus.
