I found it interesting in my researching the IJ that some people seem to think that the SDA church only has 3 verses on which we base the day to year principle.

At http://www.sdanet.org/atissue/end/yearday.htm Dr. Jerry Moon points out that Dr. Shea in "Year-Day Principle, Part I," in Selected Studies in Prophetic Interpretation [Review and Herald, 1982] gave 23 lines of biblical evidence!

You're welcome.

I have been finding that most critics do not read much outside of the literature that is critical of EGW and the SDA church. It's kind of like the Bible critics who didn't read the Bible or a lexicon so they could know what the words mean. And then they complained that the Bible was wrong when it was the translation!

Hi David!

Another point which it seems Moon did not bring out. In Daniel 9:24, the "seventy weeks" are literally "seventy sevens". And this clearly harks back to Daniel 9:2 - where his study of the writings of Jeremiah had convinced him that the seventy years of captivity were at an end - but he saw no deliverance in sight. So he prayed, confessing his own and Israel's sins (vs 3-19) - and for God's intervention. It is in direct response to this, that Gabriel announces the Seventy Sevens (of years)... which are "cut off" from the earlier time frame, the 2300 days. The original 70 years of captivity were a period of grace for Israel, of discipline, whether they would return to God. Now God extends this for a further 70 x 7 of years, to culminate with the coming of the Messiah... and as it happens, Israel's rejection of Him, and the close of this extra period of national grace.

All of which confirms the year-day understanding of Daniel 8:14... since the 490 years are part of it.

Blessings,

Colin

I have found some very interesting things in my research of this day for a year principle that was totally unrelated to it, ( seems it always happens that way ). I haven't been able to devote the time to studying this last few weeks that I wanted but I have come to accept 538 as the date of ascendency of the papacy. The reason I say this is it was this year that all of the infrastructure of the way the papacy was ran got set up. The pope moved from Constantiople to Rome and was crowned as bishop of Rome by Belasarius after the Ostrogoths were driven out, ( I know they came back and were not totally defeated until 555 or so ). I also know he was later dragged off the throne and served in a less than kingly way but like the declaration of independence sets the stage for the country of the united states 538 sets the stage for the papacy to rule for the next 1260 years. It was for 1260 prophetic days he was to wear out the saints of the most high. The dates fits.

Out of the 15 germanic tribes that over run Rome only 10 of them obtained kingdom/nation status. The Bible is vindicated again.

Interesing trivia that I have found. Moses, Christ and Elijah all fasted for 40 days and 40 nights, ( the same amout of time the rain fell during the flood ). All three men stood alive on the Mt. of transfiguration. The drought in Israel that Elijah predicted lasted 3 1/2 years or 1260 days. The ministry of Christ lasted 3 1/2 years or 1260 days. The little horn reigned for 3 1/2 prophetic years or 1260 days.

The 1260 day prophecy is given to us 7 times in two books of the Bible. 7 is a number of completness and represents God.

There were 12 tribes in Israel, 12 stones on the altars used to sacrifice in the wilderness, there is 12 foundations on the walls of the New Jerusalem. 144,000 is a factor of 12 in thousands. 3 beings in the God head. The number three is used hundreds of times in the Bible. I would say God is a God of numbers and very strict order. From what I know of science He is a God of exactness from the molecules to the largest stars etc.

God Bless
