• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Congratulations!

Nicotine is a stimulant and raises anxiety while suppressing certain emotions. Yup, you may very well become depressed or angry. Depression is anger turned inward. You may sweat it out. It has seeped into every cell and pore. The first few days is usually exhaution from years of smoking. It takes about 3 to 4 days for your body to detox and cleanse itself so it is on slow down. You are used to feeling sick so once you start to feel better in days 3 or 4 it might feel strange to be healthy, like something is missing. For now, you are still sick, so it is business as usual. You are sick from detox while it gets rid of all the nicotine. It's when you get stronger, the cravings will get stronger. We'll be here. Hang in there. Good job! Sleep it off, drink lots of fluids, and rest. Orange juice is a great detoxifier if you have any?

great job! :) The abstinence vanishes pretty quick, like a day or two, then you are done with the worst. Eat something, that's the best advice I can give. Like spicy stuff with little fat. Chewing gum with a strong mint-flavor. Imagine all the tasty stuff you can afford instead of the smokes you used to pollute yourself with. There is a lot of things you can spend money on instead. And have something to do instead of just sitting there and wanting a smoke. You forget about it if you do something fun. Avoid alcohol and food with a lot of meat and fat for a while.

proverbs 24.16 ...keep going ...get up and go again and again till you win....

have husband, wife, kids help you ....3-6 months till all cravings and habits, and associations start falling away.....

some is like being an alcoholic who no longer drinks...you are an addict who no longer smokes...

I did for 30 years....Jan 1 2009 will be 1 year without a smoke...I still have a twing from time to time...but refuse to pick up a smoke...cannot do 1 ...cannot start again...
