  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I don't watch much t.v., but I saw a rerun of this show just for the heck of it. My impressions? These are the most perceptive, intelligent high schoolers with a degree of vocabulary comparable with 20th century English boarding schools. Am I the only one who thinks this show is hogwash?

I hate Dawson's Creek for most of the same reasons as you.

Another show that I absolutely cannot stand is Gilmore Girls. The dialogues are so scripted, so superficially witty, and so fast, that there isn't a rhetorician -- much less middle class citizen with average education -- on the face of God's green Earth that could POSSIBLY speak like that under normal circumstances for any substantial length of time. And in casual conversation, who would want to? It is utterly contrived, artificial.

I don't think I could have put it better myself.

PP when did you see Dawson's Creek? Is it on at like 3 AM? Please don't tell me its actually still going.
Like I said I used to watch it when I was 16. 7 years ago. At that point Dawson was about 25 years old playing an 18 year old. He must be starting to lose his hair by now! Did he graduate high school yet??

I think it was TBS or TNT this morning around 11am I think. I just wanted to stop and let my brain rest for an hour. I decided to watch it, and then I started hearing quotes about Kant and Neitzsche. Then I thought what?? Are you kidding me? Sure, some High schoolers might know about him, but to use him in context and to express themselves with the ease of a Chesterton at that age? I can see one of them, but not an entire group of people.

They filmed that here. Never saw it myself, though. There's a new one out now that they're doing here, too. I can't remember the name of it, but I know the cast hangs out at Olive or Twist, downtown. A neighbor's older daughter brags about it.

Dawson's Creek came out when I was in high school, and I actually thought it was a great show for teenagers. While there is sex on the show is deals with the harsh affects of it. Joey and Pacey (Joey's a girl) didn't have sex until a year into their relationship (an eternity for television), and the break down of their relationship demonstrated some of the problems having sex can lead to in a non-married situation. They showed the fractures of a friendship when two of the characters had a one night stand. Dawson didn't loose his virginity until his freshman year of college, and that involved declining two women. While it does show premarital sex it also shows the destructive qualities that can happen from it. Jen originally came to the town because of her checkered past, and at the end of the show she has a child out of wedlock because of her irresponsible attitude toward sex. Unlike most teenage shows sex is shown as having real consequences, and characters talk about it as serious decisions. Just my two cents.

colleen, I think the program has "developed" from the slightly moral basis the first seris, which I watched- to the final seris, in which we had gay characters and people who just had casual sex with eachother- Jen and Pacy spent a few episodes just having "no strings attached sex".

The program changed in content, but the time slot didn't- that is the worst thing
