Well I've only heard one song by them.... and I voted no.

For some weird reason it really gets on my nerves.... but maybe they have some good music I haven't heard yet....

they were my favorite band for a couple years. they were some of the most musically exciting years of my life. I taught myself how to play guitar by studying dave's songs.

basically, I think dmb's early music is amazing because dave had gone through so many different experiences that shaped his view of the world, and the first couple albums were those reflections. Now Dave's in a much different part of life, and the band is writing together, and they are more experimental with their sound/production. I'm not so much enthralled with their new stuff. I thought dave's 2003 solo album was wonderful, and i'm actually looking forward to the band's new record, because Tim Reynold's will be back on electric... so that's good news.

anyways... i could go on. but suffice it to say, DMB is one of those things that you'll either get or you won't. For those who get it, while they get it, it's one of the best musical experiences/communities to be a part of... going to dave shows were some of the best experiences of my life.

I used to like Dave Matthews Band ALOT. I'm talking back in the Satellite/Two Step days.

Most of his new stuff sounds too "pop" to me. DMB used to improvise at concerts quite a bit and was once considered a jam band.

They seem to have given that up in favor of crowds of pre-teen girls cheering for their favorite five-minutes-and-done songs.

I saw DMB for the last time back in 2004 at Coors Amphitheater. My girlfriend and I were surrounded by a mob of 12 year old girls who looked like they had never been to a concert before-- they were silent and aloof until he played "Crash" at which point they all started screaming like banshees.

He didn't improvise or jam at all in that concert and I think only one song went for over five minutes.

It is so disappointing when great bands "sell out".

Riiight...interesting place for my first post in 11 months here. But there's some lunatic group of alters spamming antsmarching.org and since this thread seems to have a fair bit to do with antsmarching.org, seems apt :p

TheNewAge, I couldn't help but check out DMBAlmanac and see what the show you went to was like:

http://www.dmbalmanac.com/TourShowSet.aspx?id=453056115&tid=80&where=2004

Reasonable show...you had all the 2004 songs that they were roadtesting back then, and a few radio type songs, but you've still got #41 (albeit a rather short one), Typical Situation and The Stone, plus a few other great pre-Everyday songs. The setlist isn't a particularly "radio-friendly" one and I'd assume that these kids would have no idea and appreciation of most of the songs, let alone Sugar Will, Joyride, Crazy Easy and Hello Again.

Now, to selling out...I don't think they quite have. Stand Up was (despite a review I remember typing up back in 05 in this very subforum) rather rubbish. Some newer songs like Cornbread, while seemingly fun and catchy, seem to have as much substance in them as a Pussycat Dolls song. But (and this is a big but), they are still very capable of producing the goods live and have breathed new life into some of the older songs, especially with Tim Reynolds back on tour with them. Yes, there are still the itty bitty poppish tunes and the renditions of Louisiana Bayou, Old Dirt Hill and You Might Die Trying, but songs like Two Step and Dreaming Tree are monsters now even more so than they were with Butch Taylor doing his thing on the keys. They still do improvise a fair bit if you take the time to listen to tapers recordings of the shows. Sure, I would agree that they're not the band they were back in the golden days of 1997-2000, but they're not quite yet about to keel over yet.

Although anyone would agree that the situation with LeRoi Moore and his ATV accident is so very unfortunate.
