CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

the only way I know how to avoid first dates with obnoxious people is to be friends first. At least then you know who you're actually dating.

Horrible idea. I grew up with that idea and basically all it taught was that ANY touch is wrong. ANY.
Oh and my family eventually decided that wasn't biblical enough and decided to arrange a marriage for me.

Before dating any one make sure you have a sufficient amount of SELF-RESPECT.
Which means saying something to the effect of "Could you please take me home, this type of behavior, is just not working for me?"
Learn to guage what it is you seek and what it is you are willing to offer in a dating relationship. Choose. That's what dating is; it's learning to make choices about those you wish to include or disclude from your "inner circle". I'm still on good terms with most of the men I ever dated, some I have frequent contact with & others are much more long distance but still in contact.
Have some criteria for dating that includes more than a GED & a Valid Driver's License or physical appearance. Learn something about a person before you agree to a formal date. Many a nice person are not compatible for dating. Also unfortunately there are some people who are just NOT nice. A Duck will be a duck & a wolf will be a wolf. Do not date anyone thinking you are what they need to change.
Use common sense. That means let your head govern. Look at things (people) as they are not as you would like them to be. It also means looking into their heart and maybe past a physical attribute, but being true to your own compatible nature. The
Staright A student is not likely to be compatibale with some one who does just enough to get a passing grade, regardless of IQ. If you love sports, don't pursue a couch potato.

I'd say each date can be a learning experience. Thing about what can make a better date next time or now not to date a certain type of person.
Quite a few people that web date make the 1st date short so it its not going well they can escape quickly.

Don't have sex, date another Christian who is committed to their faith, don't date people that you know you won't marry, have fun, and figure the rest out for yourself.
There isn't a lot in the ACTUAL REAL BIBLE about dating. Its really something that is mostly up to you.
But Christians are obcessed with this topic and they have made up about 3 million different rules or teachings that are found no where in the bible but they like pharisee's like to convince Christians to follow their completly useless and stupid rules.
Don't listen to the dating and purity pharisee's, just do the stuff that I told you above and figure the rest out for yourself.

Sorry about that. Hmm, you see that's always confused me. How would you know you want to marry them if you haven't dated them?
Plus, how would you know whether or not you would marry them? because surely that's something you wouldn't feel until later on in the realtionship, right?

i think what he means is no stringing people along. There are people who date just to date for the fun of it, or the ego boost, the social status, etc... but there's no real intention of getting serious. And thats a reckless way to approach dating IMHO

Exactly. . . once you realize this person is not a person you can marry, you end the relationship.
You are dating to look for an eventual marrage partner, not just for the fun of it. (You should have fun while dating but there is also the serious bit about actually looking for a marrage partner that you can't ignore.)
So for example, you shouldn't marry a non-Christian. So don't date someone you know isn't a Christian.
